Could be a three way deal, with Asik going to a team with cap space, and Atlanta getting an asset, potentially as small as a 2nd round pick. Here are the teams that have enough space to be a landing spot for Asik, from an earlier NIKEstad post:

    Dallas
    Atlanta
    Cleveland
    Utah
    Detroit
    Milwaukee
    Orlando (trade exception)

I just don't see any of those teams adding Asik. He'd be good for Dallas but Mark Cuban won't facilitate a trade to help Houston

Ask Tony Parker how good they can cover. The Spurs had offensive threats too.

And another team potentially - the Lakers. We could trade Asik to the Lakers as a "simultaneous" trade as part of a Dwight sign and trade to Houston. Beverly and Ohlbrecht could be the outgoing pieces for the "first trade" to the Lakers, for Dwight; and then Asik (to the Lakers) and potentially Greg Smith or TJones to Atlanta would be the "second trade", with Josh coming to Houston as part of the second trade. With these trades, the Lakers get a big trade exception, equal to Dwight's salary less the amount of players they receive in the "separate" deals.

That Spurs team was not as dangerous offensively as we will be, and they lost by 2 missed FTs.

Rockets have no interest in giving Lakers a Dwight sized trade exception.

That would be like handing them an all star player for free. Nope don't want to see that.

What difference would it make? Players they would use it on (say, Lebron), we have to play on some team somewhere. I don't mind making the Lakers better if it makes us the best. I don't think Kobe is ever going to be Kobe again anyway. The older you get the harder it is to recover from injury.

With the frequency with which Varejao gets injured, I can see Cleveland taking Asik.

I think if it helps his team make the playoffs, I think he does it. Cuban is a fan/owner and he's learning that signing quality FAs is tougher if you are a lotto team.

Rockets will try to trade for good players, but will be constrained to trade matching rules. Trade exception for Howard would allow Lakers to absorb any NBA contract except Kobe's without other team having to absorb any contracts. I usually don't care about which team Rockets trade with. I do care about giving the Lakers the flexibility at potentially stealing an all-star player from thr Rockets...unless the Lakers give Rockets something equivalent in return.

We were a top 3 offense all year last year. Why aren't you sure about our offense?

Asik doesn't want to leave. Came from the king of insiders, DOC ROCKET.

Pretty sure the Rockets will do so. Need to maintain relationship with Lakers for future deals. Also don't want to get a reputation as an *******.

Huh? What accommodation have the Lakers ever made In past deals. I think the time of worrying about teams thinking your tam is an a-hole about future deals is past, since in the future, if we have something of value to a team, they will deal with us anyway.

You think the Bulls or Knicks won't deal with us o get a player they want?
