Understand what this amounts to: the people running the teams and the people running the CSN network now consider themselves as having the RIGHT to *TAX* us, in order to pay for 'our winner in the community'. Rather than pay for it themselves, they clearly believe that 'if the people in Houston want a winner, then they better pay up.' And if you are not willing to subsidize our private money-making venture, then you can't watch! Nyeh. The people running these outfits are possibly the most out of touch and tone deaf people in the entire world. Dear Jim Crane: If you don't believe you can be 'competitive' without taxing the people to pay for YOUR team's competitiveness, then SELL THE TEAM RIGHT NOW.
I admit it, it's Summer, there no other good sports on, all the good TV shows have had their finales, I almost wish I could watch The Astros.
Jim Crane probably feels Dwight Howard coming to the Rockets increases CSN's leverage. That may not be a good thing considering how badly he's miscalculated so far.
Screw Crane, let the Astros entire season endure the same as the Rockets season last year. ...but then I'd like to start seeing the Rox Preseason
Maybe the biggest winner in the Dwight deal will be the 2015 Houston Astros. The demand for Dwight will be a huge push on Uverse to settle and by association the Astros will guarantee a future revenue stream so that they can get back in the Free Agent business. I for one, would switch to Comcast next season if that's what it takes to get my Rockets on TV. I was OK with missing last year, but not anymore. I'd guess I'm not the only one.
I had no intention of switching from Uverse at all, Dubious..but I have to say, if we get close to Rockets season and there's still not a CSN deal, I might be switching to Comcast. I really don't want to have to do that, because I far prefer Uverse.
I absolutely do not want to, but I will. And I'm not bluffing. maybe if we get some more posts it will make a difference.... my nephew had a talk with Postolos before he left. He told him that Comcast was a bigger company than the NFL, NBA and baseball, combined. For their part, CSN is like gnat. They can lose money on it forever before they let it influence all future deals.
Ditto word for word. My contract with Uverse ends this month, so I can now start making threats to leave. Which I will do, begrudgingly, if Uverse doesn't get CSN.
Postolos echoed what I've been saying all along. This is about Comcast; not the Astros or Rockets. The Astros and Rockets made a deal with a larger organization who views their issue as a smaller battle in a bigger war.
I hope it gets settled before preseason. I really like my Uverse. But ultimately, I like my Rockets more. So if there is no deal before preseason starts, here I come FUNKY Comcast. errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I'm not saying you are wrong for doing this so don't take my comment in that way But THIS is why I think it might be even more unlikely a deal gets done now. I think that Les and Crane will both feel like they can stand their ground even more now and people will finally begin to switch to comcast, which was their expectation all along (according to Crane)
Getting NBA league pass, then renting a proxy in another city (@5ish bucks a month) to watch Rockets. F%$# Crane and F^%$ CSN.
Yep. I can bet the Rockets footprint just grew at least 25%. Bandwagon fans; hate them or love them can make your brand relevant
I don't care who has leverage, who's fighting the good fight, or who the supposed $3.40 gets passed onto. Just get a deal done. I've already caved in and went back to comcast for faster Internet, but it ain't happening for TV. I used NBA LP BB plus a VPN at the end of last season, and it worked just fine on my then DSL connection. It's an option this year, but it really is an extra expense that I'd rather not take on. Just get it done.
