Key factor in getting Dwight to come here, but will still be hated on cause he "doesn't use Lin right and ONLY runs ISOs for Harden all game". My guess is Dwight didn't and the organization don't see it that way. Glad we have him.
A lot of people criticized the move to let Adelman walk and bring in McHale. And many more have continually called for him to be fired. But it appears he was actually a major draw for Howard. Did the Rockets plan this all along when they hired him?
That's encouraging to hear from both Dwight and McHale. Hopefully, he's challenged to be great and steps up to be the leader of champions.
The guy is probably the best low post scoring big in NBA history. This is the 1st coach for Dwight that knows how to teach him how to score in the post.
i dont think it was so much that he loved McHale as much as it was he hate D'Antoni. We shall see, this is all talk. When things get rough and McHale gets on him let's see how he responds.
Hate McHale all you want, but there's a good chance we don't get Dwight if Lawrence Frank or Dwayne Casey is the coach.
Uh... I mean McHale was undoubtedly one of the all-time greats, but best low post scoring big in NBA history?? Hakeem?
Why did you select the Rockets over the other four teams you met with? Dwight Howard: “I felt like Houston was the best fit for me. I felt that James and I would really have an opportunity to grow together. I felt like having a coach like Kevin McHale and having Hakeem Olajuwon, who’s in Houston, can really help me grow as a player – help me as a post player and help my overall game. It was very appealing. I felt like this was a great opportunity for me to start fresh. I’m just looking forward to this opportunity.” http://www.hoopsworld.com/dwight-howard-discusses-decision-in-qa
McHale's really grown on me. As a coach he's got some work to do from an in-game, Xs and Os standpoint, but as a person you couldn't really ask for a better guy. The "player's coach" really is an underrated asset these days.
We'll see how much Dwight likes McHale when he leaves Dwight on the bench for a crucial rebound or the whole team watches James dribble for 23 seconds and then pass to Dwight at the last second again and again.
I don't think they hired McHale then .. For the signing of Dwight now.. I never understood why all the hate for McHale. He did a pretty good job this past year for the team he had. Only a few coaches may have gotten them into the 2nd round but its the players that are playing the game not the coaches
dwight has in all honesty the two greatest post players in nba history (dream, mchale) at his disposal.
if they help him improve his post play at all he will be dominant on both ends. how can he NOT improve? he's got the 2 best post players in history working with him now.
