Biggest FA signing for the Rockets maybe. For Houston I'd say Ed Reed and all his accolades probably Trump Howard. Idk even know who you would say for the Astros. Ryan? It's big but there are other contenders.
that was a trade. wasn't pippin a S&T? if so that would be bigger. dude was coming off of 6 rings and best team of all time. but that led no where. so hopefully this will be bigger!
Yes. To me the Pippen signing was not as big because Clyde retired that same year, and Barkley/Dream were both slowing down. It seemed like a last hurrah than a franchise building move. Even at the time, I had trepidations about the move. Astros if you count Clemens/Petite together, then in retrospect probably since we got to the WS. But individually I would not say either had the same impact Howard would have here. Texans... Got nothing.
I'd say it's the biggest signing for the Rockets ever. There have been bigger trades though. As for the city? Roger Clemens easy. Led Astros to only series ever.
I think the Ryan signing was more significant, but Clemens helped lead us to the world series. If its just rockets then I'll say Howard, but if it's all Houston sports then I'll go with ryan
Ed Reed is on the down end of his career..I would say JJo signing was a bigger signing for the Texans..
I can think of lots of big trades, but in my opinion this is the biggest FA signing in Houston history! Some of these other names mentioned such as Ed Reed, Roger Clemens and Scottie Pippen, while all big names, were more on the downside of their careers than Dwight is now. But to be fair to Dwight, those guys were added to teams that were already expected to win compete for a championship. Adding Dwight moves us closer to that spot, but I still feel like we are one or two pieces away from being major contenders.
I feel like the Harden signing was bigger. Yes, he was traded to us, but he did agree to extend to stay here. That was huge in acquiring Dwight.
Yes it has to be the best irrespective of the other greats we have signed because we somehow managed to convince a Laker player to leave LA in his prime and that has never happened before. Against all odds!
name a bigger signing in houston sports history.. carlos lee?? johnathan joseph?? ed reed?? scottie pippen?? were talking about signings here.. not trades.. there have been some big trades..
im forgetting Clemens and Pettite.. those 2 might have been the biggest signings in Houston sports history..
Clemens is debatable, depends if you factor in differences in sports. Individual players don't have nearly the same impact. Trades don't really count either. I'm going with yes. No single FA signing in Houston sports history has been this potentially franchise changing. Add to that the fact that we stole him from the LAKERS and it's that much more nuts. The only thing comparable would be something like a Manning/Brady caliber quarterback signing with the Texans. That's the level of impact a superstar NBA player has.
He still had a year left...was traded so that OKC wouldnt be left with nothing. anywho Harden never had the freedom of choice to choose his team
