Can't use cap room and then go over the cap with the MLE. It's one or the other. I'm guessing the Rockets choose cap room and Dwight Howard.

Haha safe assumption. Thanks for the answer, I'm always been confused with the exceptions. Especially since we've had cap space for a few years.

The offers for Asik must be pouring in right now if they hadn't been discussed already.. Think the Heat might throw Bosh out there? Maybe some other teams with two or three nice complimentary pieces for our roster? I can't help but feel there is a second shoe going to drop here soon.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying here, so please explain further.
I mean, after the Rockets sign Howard to a full max deal, if we are under the cap still, that means we don't get the MLE for 5 to 6 million correct?

But we still have cap holds and a rookie to sign, so if we use either of those by signing our rookie, or even trading for a roll player, and that's puts us over the cap, can we not then use the MLE to sign another player since we still have just a cap hold sitting there?

Forgive my lack of understanding, but I'm just trying to see how we can get that 5 to 6 million to help fill out the roster with another quality person off the bench...if any are even left.

the heat aren't breaking up before they go for a 3 peat. and it's not morey's MO to break up an asset into smaller less valuable assets. he like to combine them into one more valuable asset.

however, i agree that one more shoe will fall. lin and asik could net us a 3rd star either by trading them for value now or next summer when they are expiring contracts. we can do what GSW did and use a couple of first rounders (we like early second rounders better anyway) to get rid of them and gain cap space to sign one of the many stars available next summer.

Another important aspect to consider is if Smith ends up in Houston, that likely means one of DMo or TJones is gone. My guess is TJones. So assuming TJones, Asik and Lin are gone, that gives the Rockets ~ $18 million to work with, plus the room exception. The amount of flexibility Houston has will depend on how much Smith demands.

Anthony Morrow can probably be had for the minimum. He can flat out shoot it.

DJ Kennedy is a 6'6" shooting guard in RGV. He's ready. Should get a minimum salary deal.

Corey Brewer is super long and super fast. Not much of a 3-point shooter though. Rox supposedly interested. His market value is probably around $2 million.

I think Morey's MO has been that because he didn't have the stars. Now he does and needs complimentary pieces.

I think they would trade dmo before Jones. I think Jones would be more ideal off the bench if we get a starting pf through trade.

I think TJones is overall a better 4 but if DMo can shoot a three more efficiently he instantly is more valuable for this Howard lead team.

You would think both of those guys are really going to bust their asses so they can have a future with this team. I know I would want to more then if say I was on the bobcats haha.

Don't know where you got that salary breakdown from but you only have 11spots filled. You need to add cap holds for the 12 and 13 (trading) spot to calculate cap room working with a 58.5m projected cap. Please look at me update a couple of pages back.

We will need to waive Anderson and Ohlbrecht to create max room for Dwight.

    Howard/Smith
    Jones/D-Mo/Ohlbrecht
    Parsons/
    Harden/Anderson
    Lin/Beverly/Canaan

The Rockets have Asik who may not want to be a backup to Dwight, and a room exception worth $5.2 million over 2 years.

Glaring needs are a wing and a starting PF. Either we trade Asik for Josh Smith or Anderson, or we trade him for complimentary pieces.

A quick solution would be to try and get Garcia with the exception and trade Asik + Ohlbrecht for Josh Smith. To be honest, nothing else makes sense to me. Wesley Johnson, and Corey Brewer are other options instead of Garcia. I think any of them for the room exception would be more than worth it.

    Howard/Smith
    Smith/Jones/D-Mo
    Parsons/Garcia
    Harden/Anderson
    Lin/Beverly/Canaan
