Remember that we still have to fill out a roster. And while adding Dwight improves our defense, we are losing Asik, and if we REALLY want to get to the next level we are going to have to add defensive pieces. Smith is nice in that regard but his contract will limit our ability to add other quality pieces, and those defensive pieces we need to add can be had if we maintain flexibility.
Anderson is a perfectly good rebounder. His rebounds per 36 was 8-plus when he played with rebound-hog Howard in Orlando. His defense isn't great, but there's no problem with his rebounding.
Seemed like a revolving door of PFs with Asik stable at the 5, and our interior defense was just fine. I think we'll be okay, as long as Dwight brings his game every night. White twin towers in Charlotte, with Cody Zeller?
Most people here have no idea who Ryan Anderson is so it's normal for them to be leery of the deal. FYI Anderson is IMHO the best non-star stretch PF in the league. He's money on mid-range to 3 pt ala Patpat/Morris, but unlike Morris he isn't undersized and unlike Ppat he has no issues banging inside to get rebs and fts. If you already have a good rebounding team like what we have, then a stretch PF like Anderson is exactly what we need to provide spacing and finally get rid of our small ball "Let's play Parsons at PF" strategy. Even with that said though Asik should be worth more than Anderson, if this deal doesn't push through it would be because Pelicans didn't want to add sweeteners to the deal, which would be laughable as they gave the farm away for Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans (lol).
Actually it would fairly simple. First you trade Asik straight up for Anderson and then sign and trade Lin and one of DMo or Jones for Smith. Using the 150% rule you could then sign Smith to about 13-15 million a year contract. Sign Garcia to the room exception. Maybe a vet pg at the minimum. Bev/Canaan Harden/Garcia Parsons/Garcia Smith/Anderson Howard/GSmith I really would not be surprised to see Morey looking at something like this. Look at what Denver took back for Iggy. Junk. I would think Lin and Dmo wold be appealing to Atl versus losing Smith for nothing.
he would be a perfect fit for the pelicans. Eyebrow at PF and Asik at center. As a matter of fact, they might gives us trouble. We will be shooting ourselves in the foot.
Agreed, both on Dat Dude's post, and the right question to ask. People, Anderson had back-to-back 200-plus WS/48 seasons when playing with Howard in Orlando. 200-plus! They fit great together.
Ryan Anderson is Dwight's shot at redemption DWIGHT HOWARD'S SHOT AT REDEMPTION Ryan Anderson would turn Houston into Orlando 2.0 i say 2.0 because Harden is better than any player that Orlando team had, outside of D12. Ryan Anderson would play Rashard Lewis' role. Jameer Nelson---Jeremy Lin Courtney Lee--- James Harden Hedo Turkoglu--- Chandler Parsons Rashard Lewis--- Ryan Anderson D12-------------D12 We absolutely NEED shooters to surround Dwight and Harden. I get it that J-Smoove brings shot blocking and nice defense, but this would only clog the paint cause he CAN'T SHOOT. Ryan Anderson could be Houston's Robert Horry, the invaluable stretch four.
The main problem with this, IMO, is GSmith at the 5. Last year, when ever Asik went out of the game, we suffered. We either need a 4 that can protect the rim or a backup 5 that can. Anderson, while having a definite upside on offense, is not this kind of player. Neither Dmo or Jones will be that kind of player either. If we cash in Asik for Anderson, our best chance to fill this need is evaporated.
Great comparisons! except Lin and Harden, Lee and Nelson played completely different. But I can totally see the Rashard and Anderson comparison and yea it would be a good idea to have deadly 3pt shooters. I'm sure D-mo knows he played like **** last season and would be good for that role of of the bench too.
We need more than one defensive big. Period. I see how this can be overlooked. Its strange to me that many are looking to bolster the offense when that is not our primary need. Dwight cant be our entire defense. What other big man do we have to help Dwight? Answer: Nobody.
