Who do we get rid of with significant salary that LA would want?

A lesser Asik? Nah. Josh Smith is versatile, can guard the perimeter in addition to the paint, runs the floor and is much more athletic than Asik.

And Smith is? Asik is one of the BEST PnR big man defenders.

If Smith would just stop shooting so many jumpers and work on his ft% (seriously, how'd it drop so low in 2 years), he'd be a nice 3rd quality player.

    I do too.

Smith will provide a lot of intangibles and I think he's more likely to sacrifice his scoring for the team since for LMA...scoring is what he does, he's not sacrificing touches for Dwight.

Plus the two are friends and have been for a while now...so it's much more likley that Smith will not get pissy about playing 3rd banana to Howard and Harden.

LMA I think would start to complain or Howard would complain about LMA getting his touches. I don't think there is that issue with Smith. If he comes here now it's clear it's to be in more of a Chris Bosh role.

No trade would happen until we sign Dwight i'd think. Sign Howard to max, then you can S&T Asik for 150% of his contract. Maybe we can agree verbally agree on a trade, i hate waiting lol.

Asik runs the floor too. And is a very good outlet passer for a running team.

Smith is a better finisher at the rim. And he can do part-time perimeter defense. (Why do you need your PF to defend the perimeter a lot?) And Parsons is supposed to be that guy.

Yes, Josh Smith is one of the premier, if not the best, perimeter defenders in the game.

Google this - Bradford Doolittle , Basketball Prospectus, Top perimeter defender.

    or you can read this.

    http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8894024/nba-ranking-league-top-10-perimeter-defenders

It's just one guys advanced take on how to quantify defense, but its better than the way people on this board quantify it (they don't.)

No one. They just get a giant trade exception that expires next year and we get Dwight. Maybe we give them an extremely late second rounder (which Morey can easily buy anyways).

The problem is that none of us has access to Moreys advanced stats. Sure you can say Smith has poor offensive efficiency by the metrics we have out in the public, but defensively we have no idea. The eye test he certainly passes on that end of the court tho. In the end it will come down to how Smith will handle shifting down to the third offensive option and focusing mostly on locking down (with Parsons) the other team's best offensive threats.

Smith can guard lebron - reason enough to want him.

Does anyone have stats or footage on how well Smith guards Lebron?
