Hey Dakota, i think we have to also realize we have Finch and Morey to talk to Smith. Im pretty sure the coaching staff and McHale will really emphasize to him his shot selection, the math involved, etc. Dont have to be a genius to understand the coaches telling you whats more efficient. This is where our coaching staff shows whether they can communicate effectively with the team.

Perhaps we keep Asik and get Jsmooth

    Lin + Jones/Dmo + White + (2) 2nd round draft picks + (1) 1st rounder

I'd guess that his advanced stats rate Smith as a very strong defensive player and a below average offensive player with above-average versatility. We still have D-Mo and T. Jones right behind him, though, if we want that range-shooting option. I'd of course prefer Aldridge, but I wonder if Howard signing with the Rockets was on the condition that we'd go after Josh Smith.

With Smith being the potential #4 shooting option, his above average passing ability with be highlighted even more

Agreed, also, Smith has been a #2 scoring option his entire career...a bump down to a #3 or #4 option could substantially raise his efficiency

Well, we still have Beverly - I am confident that Moti can take a big step forward. And Smith is fine as a back up. Our big questions are the 2 and the 3 - 3 might be Jones, 2 might be Beverly/Canaan. And we might still get a good FA or trade...

This move makes Howard much better on offense. No one can make the post-entry pass like Josh Smith and Morey knows it. Statistically, he is the best perimeter and post defender in the game. His shot blocking is 9th in the league and Howard is fifth. You need to have quickness next to Howard and Morey understands why Gasol and Dwight failed. He could not knock down threes, nor could he do much else. Smith can do everything.

Smith does play the point forward role. i think he'll become the de facto no.2 playmaker behind Harden.

If Lin stays he really will be a spot up shooter next season.

Smith had plenty of room with Al Horford, so I don't see that being a problem. We are an up tempo team, not a half-court team like the glory days of Dream and Horry. Both Smith and Howard fit the uptempo direction the league has gone.

Nope. Our bigs weren't all that great last year from the line.

Not when you have two top 10 shot blockers in the league. Not at all.

Am I the only one that prefers Smith over LMA, next to dwight? LMA can't guard lebron, durant, or melo or any stretch 4.

Are you going to bench LMA when half the teams go small?

How do you match up with the chalmers/allen/lebron/battier/bosh lineup?

Morey won't have any trouble picking up productive veterans on the cheap to replace those guys. One of the perks of having a team with multiple all-stars.

In short, Smith is a lesser Asik.

Smith, like Asik, has a lot of overlapping skills with Howard. And Asik does everything better and is more hard working.

I still believe that if Morey trades Asik (plus package) for Smith, it's only because Howard demanded it.

Teams can only hack one player per possession. Whether it is Smith or Howard, it really doesn't matter.

This. Morey is a King at adding cheap role players as complimentary pieces.

I think we can do a sign and trade with the Lakers to keep the mini-mid level exception and give them a trade exception (better than nothing). I would probably use it to try and bring back Garcia or Delfino depending on his health.

I bet Morey doesnt sleep for the next 72 hours trying to grap guys who want to play with Harden and Dwight for cheap before other teams scoop them up.

Except, Asik and Howard aren't considered one of the best PERIMETER defenders in the league.

Yup, and during crunch time, Harden will handle the ball, like Kobe/Shaq, so teams won't have an opportunity to foul Howard under 2 minutes...
