well, that's important. everyone was saying it's not a big deal because your title and original post stated it was a credit card. it's certainly more understandable now why it will be a pain in the ass.

get yourself a real credit card, asap. :)

Yes, well, I long ago turned into more of a 'cash only' person for various reasons, but security wasn't one of them. As I said I should have made the distinction, but I don't use it as a debit card per se, (Debit card, sir? No, credit.) so I don't really think of it that way aside from now. My fault for causing the clarity issue.

yeah, so, it's a pain in the ass. Not catastrophic or anything, but... pain in the ass.

What sucks even more is that there seems to be no consequences to the criminals. This happened to me when I was out of town so fortunately, only 1 transaction at the Walmart on BW8 sw side went through for like $150. Then within the hour, someone tried another one for $300+, then $200+, then $50, lol...all declined bc I was concurrently using it out-of-state. I bet he/she was happy, then bitter.

Anyhow, I followed the proper steps and never got charged. Had to file a police report. Freakin ghetto ass area (I work around there, lol). I call up Walmart's location loss prevention and talk to the guys. They get my info and the time of the fraudulent charges and say they'll call me right back...never happened. Talking to the officer assigned to my case was of no help either. He went on about waiters using credit card swipers, basically saying, don't use credit cards or you'll risk this, lol.

I was never mad or even majorly upset. I just wanted to be a good citizen and go catch this sucker who is a drain to the community. I asked the cop if I should have Walmart forward the security tapes, and he says "well, that might pull a face, but it won't be a name, and we have hundreds of faces so it's pointless"...I'm paraphrasing. I half blame the lame cops and half blame the lame laws. I'd freaking kill this parasite criminals myself if that's the legislation that society would pass and if that's what they'd require of citizens. Again, not mad, just disappointed that there's absolutely no repercussions for this type of fraud bc the cops are either unmotivated/overworked or the laws don't have enough teeth, bc I was absolutely willing to do all the legwork and Walmart didn't care and the cops didn't care. Now I'm just carrying cash and a gun, like a rapper.

Yes. That's how I know they're mailing another card, and that it will take 10 days to recover the charges that were made before they started declining them.

Yes, they talked about filing a report, but said the fraud department would investigate if there was a large enough racket worth going after.

So, yeah, I don't think I am filing one mostly because well....

Guy goes on and on about how we don't understand that it's a big deal his credit card got stolen, gets defensive, then reveals it's actually a debit card after arguing with everyone that tells him having your credit card stolen is no biggie...

^^^ smh Pretty sure I was just explaining myself, don't recall getting defensive beyond having to explain why having money stolen would bother me. Unless me admitting I should have clarified qualifies.

Never mind. You're right. Criminals rock, it's not a pain in the ass, nor inconvenient. Move along, nothing to see here.

I don't know why people would not use CC, if you cannot stop spending, that's your problem. get reward and good credit rating, pays off at end of every month,CC FTW! Oh there is a cap on how much you can lose with your CC as well, I think it is 50 dollars or something.

Hubby's CC was fraudulently used online yesterday for several purchases and his CC company called early in the morning to verify the charges. Have no idea how they got his info. Scary thought.

yep. i don't even know how someone was using my Visa CC that I only had for 2 months. they made a transaction for $139. i don't recall letting that thing out of my sight except for restaurant payments. that's why it's important to use credit cards instead of debit/check cards.

Rogue waiters at restaurants carry skimming devices on their belts. As one hands them a card to pay, they swipe the card through their skimmer - prior to running the legitimate transaction. This information is collected and provided to ringleaders, who sell the card numbers anonymously to suspects through chat rooms or forums. As for gas stations, suspects (most times through collusion) install skimmers on outside gas pumps. As most have stated, it is best to use a credit card rather than a debit card.
