Can't see GSW making these moves without an agreement in place for DW to go there. Otherwise if Dwight signed somewhere else after they blew everything up, it would be one of the dumbest things any team has ever done ha didn include the words Matt Maloney.
Exactly. There is no new information here. Heisler is merely stating the obvious — "IF" GS can clear the room and "IF" that's what Howard is looking for, then its a done deal. Heisler, BTW, was breaking a lot of Golden State news last night. Not that GS is no threat, but you have to read this stuff carefully.

Not sure if it's that simple. Yes, teams have cap room, but usually rental price for $9-10M of cap room (size of each of Jefferson's and Biedrin's contracts) is higher than just one very late 1st rounder. I remember the Bulls were trying to dump a little bit of salary to get under the cap and couldn't get it done because they wouldn't offer a late 1st rounder to dump roughly $4M in salary for half a season. A number of teams have cap room now, but many are still chasing free agents of their own (including Dwight, Josh Smith, Iguodala, etc.) and others wouldn't give it up for cheap-- may ask for multiple picks or a good young player-- given that they may be able to "rent" the cap room later in the season. As I said before, if GSW has easy ways to dump the salaries and and that's all it takes to get Dwight onboard, they would have done it already instead of leaking their progress in salary dumping to the media. Chances are they are still looking to, and likely needing to, find a good way to dump salary while still remaining competitive with teams like Houston in terms of talent.

I don't think it is being in Dream's shadow as much as it is not being the number 1 guy (behind a younger Harden). Still think he comes here. No way can GSW keep their core.

NO, not if they are trading players to a team like Utah or Atlanta that has cap space to absorb them for nothing. Here's the deal. If GS can get both Bogut and Lee moved without taking back salary, then they can put together a sign-and-trade for Dwight using those 2 contracts and one of Barnes/Thompson. Bogut somewhere for no salary. Lee somewhere for no salary and possibly a pick or two. And one of Barnes/Thompson to Lakers for Dwight. Moving out Bogut/Lee/(Barnes or Bogut) leaves GS under the apron after the trade. This is what they are attempting to do. I can see Bogut going to a team like Utah or Atlanta for cap space. They are expiring and a free player/contract. Since all teams have to pay out 90% of the salary cap in payroll, these teams have to acquire contracts from somewhere, whether it's by trade or signing. I said several weeks ago that several of these teams were so far under the cap that this was likely to happen a time or two at least. Remember, all this talk about Golden State is most likely being rumored by the Lakers. Lakers know they've lost Dwight. They're trying to get something in return for him. A young talent on a rookie deal makes a lot of sense for them. I'm sure they'd probably prefer a deal for one of Barnes/THompson over Dwight walking outright to Houston or over what we are willing to offer them in a sign-and-trade.
