I could honestly see him stretch this out until the 10th-12th. Would it really shock anyone?

If the deal he wants to see happen is already in place, why not? Let other teams scramble, let other teams lose out on deals. If he has what he wants, why not wait?

I notice that neither Josh Smith nor Calderon have signed deals with a team yet. Calderon declined an offer to the Kings. Josh has heard a few offers and is sitting. Waiting. These are two guys who reportedly want to team with Howard. Wonder what they're waiting for, eh?

To give his new team the time to sign free agents and make deals before they're gone.

If we do this deal the aftermath will involve finding stringers and vets who will do minimum, right? The fish that are going right now aren't the types to fill the roster after a big 3 deal like that.

Has Garcia signed anywhere yet? ;)

You are correct. It's just between the Rockets.

I honestly could not see us doing SnT with LAL, its like shooting our own foot... being able to sign Howard outright is one advantage we have... Josh Smith is already waiting for Dwight to sign first...

    Thanks for posting.

One advantage HOU has over GSW in seeking a S&T of Howard is that doing so will actually help Houston open up cap room for a straight up signing of Josh Smith (or another high priced free agent) but won't help GSW gain any cap room with which to acquire a player. So, whatever GSW gives up in a S&T is pretty much just a straight up loss of asset/talent from the team, making them a less desirable location-- how much this matters to Dwight Howard remains to be seen, though.

Lakers can say that "we don't want to take back 2014 because of our cap room or even 2013 salary because of tax implications" but it may be posturing (having only Nash under contract in 2014 means they can take on, say, Omer Asik and still have plenty of cap room) and there are also ways around it like involving a third team willing and able to take on Bogut, Lin or Asik and give Lakers a draft pick or cheap player. The latter case is especially true for Omer Asik, a young proven center on a team-friendly contract.

Also, somebody mentioned this earlier, which I think is interesting: If Houston manages to trade just one of the two $8.4M guys (plus maybe another small contract) for Howard and secure an agreement to trade the other $8.4M contract (plus another smaller contract maybe) for Smith. Then the team can have close to $8.4M in cap space or perhaps more as of the moment after the Howard trade but before the Smith trade. It means that potentially Houston can end up with Howard, Smith, plus an $8.4M free agent out of the whole deal. Not sure it'd work, but would be great if Morey can pull it off.

Yeah it has been pretty interesting seeing how these fans have gone from...

"No way he leaves LA" to "Screw him, he is not worth the money"

I moved out here to OC like 4 years ago and each year I despise having conversations with 99% of LA fans since they are so ignorant and can't get off their high horse.
