Howard has to agree to be traded, so the package is irrelevant. If he wants Houston he'll sign here outright.

Dwight has to WANT to go there. If it's Rockets or bust, then they have no choice but to deal with us.

They would have to sign Howard first before they could trade him. If the Lakers don't arrange a sign and trade with the team he wants to sign with, then he'll just sign as a free agent and forgo the 5th year.

If it's the only way you can get rid of Lin then I guess you think about it, but to give up Asik I'd almost need something else in return other than Dwight.

They can ask, but they aren't getting Parsons. Beggars don't get to be choosers, and Dwight will just sign outright with the Rockets.

Again, if the Rockets engage the Lakers in a S&T, they maintain their cap space to go after another free agent (Josh Smith).

Why did Morey post that video tonight? Makes me think his confidence is wavering.

If Dwight wants Houston and rings, he would be an idiot to want a S&T. Just for a few million (like $3.2) more over 4 years he would make the Rockets much less equipped to build around him. Is that 5th year that important? Does he not believe he will be worthy of the max again in 4 years?

If LA takes on Lin and Asik, wouldn't that put them out of running for the coveted 2014 free agency?

Think GS have the best package to offer with Bogut's expiring but they're still way over the cap.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed that Dwight makes the most logical decision today. The gut feeling I have was the same when Robin van Persie signed for Man United last year, so let's hope I'm correct again!

Damned I would love to see the Lakers taking Lin and Asik so we can sign Josh Smith! Desperate moves for the Fakers!

    The bolded is just inaccurate.

    http://www.hoopsworld.com/los-angeles-lakers-team-salary

They are sitting at $77.4M right now. Add in Bogut + Barnes (~$3M + $14M = $17M) and amnesty Pau = -$19.3M = $75.1M. 2013-14 luxury tax line is $71.6M. Means they are $3.5M over the tax line. Here is the penalty:

    http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q21

Repeater does not begin until next yr. So this yr, that is at a $1.50 rate, so $5.25M. That's the tax. If you add the $3.5M to that (I am not sure if you do or not), that's $8.75M, NOT $20M.

Barnes is a prospect and Bogut is a LOT worse than Pau. Come on lol. Dude can barely stay on the floor (though true for Pau as well). When Pau was playing later in the series, he was hitting triple doubles a lot...dude is still very good. Barnes + Bogut < Pau, I stand by that.

So your whole $20M argument is out the door, hence the crux of your whole thing is sort of weak. It might not even cost them spots in the draft for all we know.

I agree that I'd rather just tell Dwight to sign here outright if it means losing Asik, but you have to think that the allure of signing Josh Smith as well as Dwight might be worth losing Lin AND Asik. That's a hell of a lineup you'd be getting in return.....
