Apprantly Calderon and Howard want to play together and that's why Calderon is not signing with anyone till Dwight signs. Interesting Calderon Harden Parsons Smith? Howard Yes baby!
Maybe doc is quoting dh12..maybe Dwight doesn't want to go to the warriors if they have to give up significant assets
It's pretty easy to get banned there if you're something other than a Laker fan. Now they are saying people in Texas have no teeth. A few weeks ago, lots of people on that board wouldn't take Griffin/Bledsoe, now they are praying for Barnes + a pick, some even are now willing to take Bogut's contract. They are freaking out, meltdownlakerground.
Again, I think it is a very credible threat. Not guaranteed, but scares me the most right now (more than LA straight up keeping Dwight). GSW => Barnes + Bogut + future 1st round pick Dwight => still would want to play for GSW since they really only lost Barnes; would tell LAL he's going to HOU unless SnT to GSW LAL => Bogut comes off the books next yr; Barnes is a GREAT young prospect (team option next summer), and they get a low first rounder LAL's already a bit into the luxury tax, so they'd probably amnesty Metta or Nash if they let Dwight walk for free. I just don't see them amnestying Pau if Dwight leaves. I can't really explain it so that's a weak part of my argument. But if they do this SnT w/ GSW, they'd definitely move Pau for near free or amnesty him. They'd then have LESS salary than now (though still paying some tax). They would be deemed a possible repeater next yr, but they won't get deep into luxury tax next yr. They're doing most of it via FA signings so hard to go THAT high over the cap unless they really, REALLY try or something lol. Since I assume they will not amnesty Pau (but rather Nash or Metta) if they let Dwight walk for free...and injured Kobe coming back late + 40 yr old Nash or Metta + Pau actually > injured Kobe coming back late + 40 yr old Nash + Metta + Bogut + Barnes imo. Either way, I Don't think their draft prospects are altered that much. Both teams kinda suck. Is this really not a reasonable alternative they could be considering right now?
you beat me to it, but Calderon is not just interested in la. He wants to see where Dwight signs and if that place has the opening for him according to hoopshype.
I didn't say they were late. You said that getting a 1st from GSW would be part of the package and that has little value. Certainly not enough to make up for moving down a few slots in next year's draft. I agree that your scenario (amnestying Pau) is unlikely for LA, but trading him for little value in return or amnestying him ONLY makes sense if they tank and if they are going to tank there is no value in doing the Dwight S&T. You assumed amnestying Pau. I did not. Your argument was basically predicated on Barnes being worth dropping to a lower pick in 2014 (because they certainly would be a better team with Bogut and Barnes next year then without them), spending about $20M in real dollars in 2013, putting themselves in jeopardy (and that is their plan) for the repeater penalty, and still not being good enough to be anything but average in 2013. Harrison Barnes isn't worth all that. Hell, if you asked me right now if I would trade the #5 pick in 2014 for the #10 and Barnes I don't think I would bite, but adding $20M in real dollars and repeat offender status would bring an absolute hell no.
A good sign for us is the lack of Woj tweets, and recall history most of our business stays out of the media until it is done. Stuff in Cali seems to leek out really fast historically. This tells me that the lack of information to the media is a good sign for us.
Hilarious. The funny thing is that I probably know more about the Lakers' history than many of the posters on there. I guarantee that if you asked some of them about Happy Hairston, Gail Goodrich, Ernie DiGregorio, Elden Campbell, etc. they wouldn't know who the heck you were talking about. As I've said, FOR YOU LAKERS FANS READING THIS, I of course respect their franchise. But it's quite obvious that many posters on there see the Rockets as some kind of turd franchise that hasn't done anything. And what probably most of them are angry about is that they know this is the truth: Steve Nash is old. Kobe Bryant is old. MWP is old. Pau Gasol is old. That's just the way it is. It's the same reason why Dream, Barkley, and Drexler did not win a championship together- past their prime. SEE, LAKERS FANS, I'M TROLLING MY OWN TEAM HERE!!! They're a funny bunch- let them go on thinking that they're going to be relevant in the next 10 years. They'll probably win another championship, but it's going to be at least a decade before that happens. I guess 5 in 10 years ain't enough for them. Boo....freaking....hoo.
So is he supposed to announce at midnight or something? Why am I counting down like this is New Years Eve? I swear I can even hear fireworks
Has there been anything that can be substantiated since the start? Its seems like we pretty much all have heard from somewhere that Dwight will land in a particular placeLA, Houston ,GS and Dallas). Were they all right? I'm not saying that Dwight is coming to Houston, nor am I saying that he is leaning GS, but why should I give the GS "Report" credence over the previous reports?
So where we are disagreeing is whether moving down a few slots in the 2014 draft is worth Barnes + another late first round pick? I think it is. You may not. Proven players, esp. young ones w/ a lot of upside are better than most picks, which depend a lot on luck. I think people tend to overvalue the gambling aspect of picks. Is a slightly higher pick (as LAL would still have their own 2014 first rounder) > Barnes + another low first? Also, again, if LAL is tanking, there is of course value in getting Barnes. He's like an insurance against the 2014 pick, where they only give up the delta between whatever pick they end up getting and whatever pick they would have otherwise gotten. And you yourself said you don't think LAL would amnesty Pau IF Dwight walks for free. So what we're REALLY comparing here is Pau but no either Nash or Metta vs. no Pau but yes Barnes and Bogut. I think the latter is actually WORSE. The only way LAL even gets a slightly worse pick is IF they plan on amnestying/moving Pau REGARDLESS of whether Dwight walks for free or is SnT'd to GSW. I don't think that is their plan, for whatever reason. And finally, moving into repeater when they will not go deep into luxury tax next yr (due to it being via FA signings) is an even less 'valued' threat than another first round pick from GSW I bet lol.
