And they're already in the tax this yr even WITHOUT doing a deal. They'd have to amnesty Metta to get under it. In this case, amnesty Pau and then get Bogut + Barnes = less salary actually. They'd barely be in the tax. Repeater kicks in next yr, but who knows what they'll have next yr and how over the cap they'll be. Can't be that much if they're trying to do most of it via FA.

don't forget every dollar a team is over the cap by 15 to 20 Mil is 3.25 dollars in Luxury tax Hell. Repeaters is 4.25 dollars in taxes for every dollar over the cap starting the 2014-2015 season.

The Lakers will be far over 20 million in 2013-2014. that's 60 million plus Lakers have to pay just for the Payroll as it is, which is 77 Million dollars sans Dwight Howard.

The 2011 CBA instituted major changes to the luxury tax regime. The dollar-for-dollar tax provisions of the previous CBA remain in effect through the 2012–13 season. Starting in 2013–14, the tax changes to an incremental system. Tax will be assessed at different levels based on the amount that a team is over the luxury tax threshold. The scheme is not cumulative—each level of tax applies only to amounts over that level's threshold. For example, a team that is $8 million over the tax threshold will pay $1.50 for each of its first $5 million over the tax threshold, and $1.75 per dollar for the remaining $3 million. Starting in 2014–15, "repeat offenders", subject to additional penalties, are defined as teams that paid tax in previous seasons. In the first season, repeat offenders from in all previous three seasons will pay a stiffer tax rate; from 2015–16 thereafter, teams paying taxes in three out of four years will be subject to the higher repeater rate.[9] As in the previous CBA, the tax revenue is divided among teams with lower payrolls.[37] However, under the new scheme, no more than 50% of the total tax revenue can go exclusively to teams that did not go over the cap; the use of the remaining 50% has not been specified in the new agreement.[5]

Part of me believes all these rumors are to kill any potential tampering allegations.

NEVER has Morey acted the way he did on that 790 interview.

NEVER has the most credible reporter in the biz continuously referred to us as "frontrunners".

NEVER has Hakeem been as confident as he was in that video.

NEVER have we had ANYONE "guaranteeing" we are getting any free agent we've ever chased.

NEVER have we had as much to offer.

If it doesn't happen NOW and THIS TIME.... we've done something seriously wrong to piss off the basketball gods. (then again, I guess we are talking about Dwight Howard...)
