trades have to be equal in total salary. two teams have to trade equal contracts. for example. team 1: player 1=10 mil player 2=20 mil Team 2: Player 1 =5 Mil player 2=5 Mil player 2=20 mil This trade would be legitimate. if the contracts are not equal on both sides, the trade can not go through.
I think it implies that if Lin is better than Calderon, the margin isn't great enough to keep you from pursuing Dwight.....assuming Calderon on the team really matters to Dwight.
The question is what team is willing to join in as the third wheel to facilitate the deal. Any other team with cap space or trade exceptions can take on Barnes or Thomson and/or picks to take on Bogut or other contracts to make it happen. This doesn't have to me a 2-team trade.
Why do you think you would have to move Lin and Asik together to get Smith? With a trade of Asik, Jones, and White's contract you could take back almost $16M in salary. And as of now (without dropping guys like Beverly and Smith) the Rockets only have about $19.3M in cap room to sign Dwight, so either way they need to cut salary to get to at least a reasonable number to sign him. At a minimum that is cutting and stretching White.
Thats what I'm thinking, too. Dwight can be THE BEST BIG MAN in THEIR FRANCHISE history. And arguably the best player overall. In Lakers and Rockets, and even Magic, he's playing BEHIND other legends AT his position. He can be on an up and coming team bigger fish in a smaller pond. While still having ALL the FAME benefits. (Though Dwight wouldnt have the Chinese market as much)

I agree Jose is the man but I somehow believe Lin can improve in his 2nd and 3rd year... maybe it is just me
I have a strong feeling rockets with amnesty Royce White if Dwight signs... that will just be enough to sign DH12 outright...
That's true but Lin hitting the game winning 3 over calderon in Toronto during Linsanity will be ingrained in my memory forever. It made a big impact on Les from all reports as well. Not sure if Les would sign off on Lin for Calderon.
