Rivalries and division rivals have always been there. When is the last time the Lakers made a big trade to ANY of the teams listed below?

    Warriors
    Clippers
    Celtics

But the Rockets can sign Dwight without the Lakers consent...the Warriors basically need the Lakers consent to get Dwight.

Even so, the Laker-Rocket rivalry is a one sided thing (because most Western conf. fans hate the Lakers) because until this Dwight stuff Laker fans didn't really care about what the Rockets have done. At least from my experience with Laker fans.

they cant sign and trade dwight without getting something back

getting bogut's large expiring contract back - the lakers then would essentially be paying 30 million for 1 year and probably 40-45 games of andrew bogut -- this actually HURTs the lakers.

they would be mediocre for sure - you cant depend on Nash being healthy for the entire year - you cant believe Kobe is going to be like he was last season off the injury -- they lakers would be anywhere from 5-8 with a squad like that and deep in the luxury tax.

Thats not worth it at all - even with the late first round picks.

lakers philosophy right now is to get dwight back and go for it again next season

or if no dwight - pack it all up save as much money as possible by amnesty and let Kobe rest - get a higher draft pick in the most anticipated draft class in over a decade and reload in the 2014 offseason.

getting bogut back help NONE of those plans.

This doesn't even go into the fact that Dwight would stand to make the LEAST amount of money possible by Golden State - he'll get the smaller 4 year deal (no longer the 5th and 30 million) AND get taxed like crazy since he is still in california

the lakers plan in 2014 would still be to utilize their capspace. the 28th-30th pick isn't so much an asset. the lakers have repeatedly been reported to not be interested in sign and trades. that there have been no discussions, and perhaps the only way to start talking about one would be klay or barnes, with a first, and expirings. then that throws out the whole notion that dwight wants to play with the whole team since he's under the impression he'd play with barnes, klay and curry.

and i don't understand why rox somehow are a bigger rival to LA NOW than GS. GS finished with a better record than us, and the only way they can acquire dwight is through LA's help. they are a division/cross state rival. LA would be helping dwight go to GS, they wouldn't be helping us get him, because we can get him straight up. the whole idea the lakers would accept any crap for dwight to help a division rival is stretching it at best.

You play to win the championship. with dwight only being 27, barnes and thompson is a small price to pay for a face of the franchise type player. I'd have no problem with giving them both barnes and thompson plus bogut with future 20+ pick selections. You don't even sleep on it if you're golden state.

Even so, I think Houston is still the best choice for Dwight than teaming up with a franchise that has made bad move after move and is dependent on a guy who turns his ankle almost literally every month.

I'm a bit biased of course, but I'm taking off my ketchup/mustard glasses here and saying it wouldn't be a good move.

I think players need to start looking at whose running the FO too, it feels like players never take this in consideration. The warriors FO is just like the magic one was with Dwight. They collect bad contracts...and at any moment their best player goes down with a injury.

As great of a career kobes had, he works really hard to screw the lakers year in and year out.

Houston and Golden State are about as good as each other right now. Should be a no brainer to go to a Houston that gets to keep all of its pieces (or trade them for upgrades) rather than the team that has to give up 2 or 3 of its best players to get you.

Such a cruel thing for Dwight to leave us alone with our thoughts.

Bucks sign and traded JJ Redick without getting someone back, only 2 2nd round picks. In the multi-team deal I posted, the Lakers would be getting 2 first round picks. Lakers wouldn't need to get any salary back.

    Curry/Klay/Barnes/Lee/Dwight

Dwight might have a problem with that. (Oh, and also the fact that he'd make the least amount of money there.) And the Lakers might have a problem with the luxury tax bill GS would be serving them.

You can take on up to 150% of your outgoing salary in a s&t if you are over the cap. To get Dwight they would at least need to send out about 14 million...

That's why I think he won't say anything until the 10th. He likes the attention.

What value does 2 LOW first rounders give the Lakers?? Why would they accept guaranteed contracts like that while helping to assemble a powerhouse in their OWN division?? Dude, come on.

    Bogut - $13 million
    Rush - $4 million

    $17 million.
