The Nets hire a kidd and the Celtics hire someone who looks like he's still 'feeling 22'. Interesting NBA offseason.

@BillSimmons: Brad Stevens! HERE COME THE CELTS! (In 3-4 years after they blow it up and rebuild from scratch, but still.)

I hope he makes it. His program has over-performed dramatically under his leadership.

Bet he makes better decisions on the 4th quarter based off of analytics than McHale.
Bet he always knows when to use his PG better than McHale, its not his game its the players game. I already like this dude better than you know who.

This increases the chances he takes over for Coach K in 2017 (both Duke and Team USA)

brad stevens is a very good coach...he now has to coach men and not boys (even tho a lot of young men(boys) in the nba now between 20-24)

No way Rondo stays. Stevens won't have the patience with him

    Great higher.
Especially for a team that is positioned to rebuild with youth.
Brad Stevens is young, a good, patient teacher, cool under pressure, and has a strong analytical background.
    Really good fit.

You mean the inverse as well right? Rondo won't have patience for a "rookie" head coach.

i think you always have to be skeptical of college coaches moving to professional ranks. it could work...but i wouldn't bank on it.

whats the deal worth? stevens signed like a 12 yr deal just a year ago to stay with butler...celtics must have offered him a ton he couldnt refuse

The brilliance of this deal for Stevens is

    1. He's w/o a doubt making more than he was at Butler

    2. He's made the ultimate jump-to the pro coaching ranks

    3. By skipping the "coach a major college after Butler" nonsense and going straight to coaching in the NBA, if he's a success he stays coaching in the NBA, if he fails, guess where he goes? Yup, coaching a major college. If he jumped from Butler to a major college and failed there, no way in heck an NBA team would call him. This was a great move for him. (Only way it could be better is if he got the Pitino-team prez deal)

I hope this turns out better than Rick Pitino's stint. Drastically different personalities though.

Exceptional hire. Other than Coach K, Stevens is the most impressive coach to me on actual coaching.

Phil Jackson and Pop are incredible because they manage personalities and teams. They have rings to prove it.

    But Stevens actually coaches basketball.

yeah...but a lot of coaching the all professional sports is managing personalities. its no so much the X's and O's at that point.

thats why its a major crap shoot hiring from the college ranks it seems.

can stevens stroke the egos of the players who need their egos stroked and be tough on the ones who need tough talk? its a balancing act.
