No idea what his market is/will be like, but I've always liked Mozgov. Would fit pretty well here IMO. Good size. Quite agile. Runs the floor well. Good pick&roll finisher. Solid rebounder. Offers some rim protection. Fouls a lot, but wouldn't really matter in a 12-15 minutes bench role. If Asik is traded, I think you have Aldemir, Greg Smith, and Ohlbrecht fighting it out for backup center. Suspect Aldemir would win. Third center would be tough.
Serious question: how did Sammy D. burn bridges with us...? I don't remember him doing anything really controversial.
We do not need to trade or sign for more than the minimum any center to back up Dwight if indeed we move out Asik. If we move Asik it's because we're bringing in a big time 4, probably Smith. Smith will probably see time at the 5 when Dwight is on the bench. And then we have a guy that we have been hiding in order to sign him to a minimum deal that will have a much better impact on our paint defense and rebounding and shot blocking than any of the guys already mentioned here. h-a-s-s-a-n w-h-i-t-e-s-i-d-e this dude is huuuuuuuuuge. And athletic. We buried him in RGV, giving him slop minutes for the last half of the season after we gave up a very good player to get him. He's 260 lbs. with a 9'6" standing reach. He's grown into his frame. In the scratch minutes he played in RGV, he simply dominated the defensive paint and the glass. He makes Ohlbrecht look like a small forward..that's how big he is. I have to believe that we only buried him on the bench down there for one reason...to keep other teams from latching on to him and signing him last season. He's ready to be on an NBA roster. He has matured. We should give him a minimum salary deal for 4 years with the last 2 years non-guaranteed and call it a day. We should not waste trade assets or exceptions to bring in a back up center.
Unlikely but can we just convince Yao Ming for one more run? Imagine Dwight Howard and Yao Ming as the backup
I don't think we could nab anyone worthwhile. So I'd rather just have Smith, Furkan, and Ohlbrecht fight it out or play small ball with D-Mo. Personally, I'd rather not waste space on Jermaine O'Neal. I'd love to get Chuck back, but he's way too expensive. Of course, if Howard is still insistent on playing with Asik, the point is moot.
whoever is going to be backup center to asik if he stays and howard doesn't come, should be backup center to howard.
