Idk what to say if you can't see the value in his defense.

Iggy is about to get paid again bc of it

My question is this, how do we keep Parsons once his contract is up when Harden, Dwight, and Smith are all on Max deals. I don't want to lose Parsons in the future to secure Josh Smith.

You can go over the cap to sign a player with whom you own their bird rights to. Les has stated in recent weeks that he is prepared to pay the lux tax in the future to contend.... I guess you have to take him at his word.

I've followed the Hawks closely for many, many years.

That said, I'm not a fan of this idea. Josh Smith doesn't fit offensively and will drive everybody here insane with his poor shot selection and lack of basketball IQ.

He's a Steve Francis. Stay away.

We don't want him for his ball handling in the half court.

When I say he's a Steve Francis, I'm not referring to dribbling the ball for 20 seconds before trying to do something. I'm talking about a player that's too dense to ever understand winning basketball. A player that doesn't know his strengths/weaknesses. A player that still doesn't understand, even after 10 years in the league, why he's left wide open on those 20-footers and why the fans moan & groan anytime he lines up to attempt one.

As did I. The fan in me loved Francis, Chuckwagon, Landry, Scola, etc....

But the time comes where you have to put all of that aside and make a smart basketball decision. I may be in the minority on this one; but again, I think Josh Smith is a poor fit on this team (paired up next to a player like D12).

Thank's genius, I heard Morey is looking to hire someone just like you! You should apply immediately.

I really am not in favor of giving up Lin for Smith. We are too inexperienced at point guard to be giving up our starter

How many times in the NBA do you see the player, who is making the entry pass into the post, position his body between the ball and who is defending him to try to get closer (which is necessary) & also protect the ball???? Answer: A lot. Doing that requires good handles.

How many times have you ever seen Lin do this???? Answer: Never. Because he has poor handles. Especially if he is on the left side of the court, he will have to dribble the ball with his weak left hand to do that. Everybody know unless he absolutely has to, he always avoids dribbling the ball with his left hand, even facing the basket. So I think he will have a lot of trouble doing what I am talking about.

And by the way, Howard likes to post up on the left block so that he can sweep into the middle.

Bird rights as the other poster said. We would eventually become the Lakers in terms of payroll. If you do Asik and White for Smith you would be over the cap. But with Lin making 8 million you could trade him later for another significant piece. Like the lakers trading Bynum and receiving Howard. Morey has set us up very very well to accumulate a lot of talent.

This is also why I see the Rockets only trading one of Lin or Asik for Smith. If you traded both your assets and flexibility are gone. Keep one and later on you can add another player around 10 million in salary.

I'm not a big fan of acquiring Smith. For one, you don't need a big 3 to win the title. There are no "Big 3's" in the league. Bosh did not play like one and even Wade was on the decline/hurt during their playoff run last year. Manu was worthless for most of the finals and I can't think of anyone else with a big 3. Two, I like keeping Asik b/c I'm still not sold that Dwight won't have some lingering back problems that keep him in and out of the line up.

I think the team constructed around Harden as the lead dog with Dwight as the #2 with the rest of the team is talented enough to win the title. If we do make the trade, I just hope we can keep DMo and Jones.

I been hearing way too many Lin haters and lovers about why we should trade him or keep him.

The bottomline is, Lin has value around the league whether you accept it or not. if by trading Lin in order to obtain a valueable player like Smith, then go for it. having Harden, Howard, and Smith will just not have enough balls to go around for Lin to be effective. We dont even need starter PG, we just need someone who can shoot the 3s and spread the floor. having Lin would waste his talent and hinder Rockets in order to obtain a better player.

You Trade to improve and not to get rid of someone.

I think the Rockets could put together a package to get Josh Smith without giving up Asik.

It would be a 3 team trade much like what we saw with LAC/PHX/MIL where MIL just signed and traded a player that was leaving anyway (Reddick) for some draft picks.

    HOUSTON - DETROIT - ATLANTA

    HOUSTON gets S&T Josh Smith ~ 13M/per
DETROIT gets Jeremy Lin (maybe D.Mo OR T Jones)
ATLANTA gets Draft pick + (maybe D.Mo OR T Jones)

The final trade would have to get smoothed out a bit but that is the basic structure. Rockets would only give up D.Mo OR T Jones in the package. I just don't know to which team.

Rumors are Detroit likes Lin. Rumors are Detroit is offering Stucky+CharlieV for Rudy Gay. So they could be willing to take on Lin here. Atlanta "gets something for the effort" without losing Smith for nothing. They probably are on Tank mode anyway. (as is much of the league according to Chad Ford).

They key for the Rockets, is that they move Lin's salary to get Josh Smith. Better value here since they have Beverley and significantly add to the PF spot with Smith. And then the kicker, is that the Rockets still have ASIK.

Maybe the Rockets add a vet PG to fill out the PG rotation.

With Korver backing off of the deal with the Nets (where he would have made $3.1M) he and Smith together might be perfect. Sounds like he may go to someone like the Bucks for more money than makes sense, but if he (and maybe Smith, depending on his real market) will give a little to play for a top team it could work.

Both S&T to Houston for Asik, Lin, Terrance Jones, and Royce White and Rockets could offer up to $25M combined for both. I think the ideal would just for it to be a straight salary swap of about $20M ($15M for Smith and $5M for Korver) and not decrease your luxury tax maneuverability much.

    1) Howard 20,513,178
    2) J.Smith 15,000,000
    3) Harden 13,755,089 (adjusted for 58.5m cap)
    4) Kyle Korver 5,000,000
    5) D-Mo 1,422,720
    6) Parsons 926,500
    7) G.Smith 884,293
    8) Beverley 788,872
    9) Canaan 490,180 (no contract yet, assume rookie min.)
    10) Cap Hold 490,180
    11) Cap Hold 490,180
    12) Cap Hold 490,180

Add a PG and C backup with the exception and a minimum deal and the team is stacked and still falls under the luxury tax.

I still hope it's not going to happen, would rather see what Jones can become and maybe try a Millsap or something.

Iguodala is contemplating the Kings' offer after having, according to a source, "great meetings" with the Hawks, Rockets, Warriors and Pistons.

The Rockets want both Howard and Smith, who played together in Atlanta for the AAU Atlanta Celtics and have remained friends. However, Smith will not necessarily wait for Howard's decision before he makes up his own mind.
