It's not about blocked shots. See the link below for a writeup on the defense that Josh Smith can and does do - top 5 perimeter defender and some believe (based on their own defensive calculations) that he is the top perimeter defender.

I would start Beverley and bring Lin off the bench to run the Bench brigade with Asik (if kept). Beverley might not be starting material, but it might be a better way to rotate the players.

I cannot think of a more misrepresenting analogy.

I think Lin's handles are poor but his passing is good. I disagree with the persons' statement that Morlock disagreed with, I specified that twice.

Like I said, I already donated to the Jeremy Lin foundation thus you insulting Lin's followers, which I am, makes you a LOH.

The Hawks will still need a C when Wiggins is in the draft next year. Better to grab a young and vastly improving C, which are exceedingly rare in the league today, than trying to find one to go with the Top Draft Pick the Hawks may or may not wind up with. A sign n trade makes sense for the Hawks so that they at least get something before Smith walks.

Parting with both Lin and Asik simply cannot be avoided if we are going to be able to sign a 3rd potential all-star and a competitive bench. We need the cap relief if we are to fill out the rest of the roster. Technically, we could give up just one of them plus one of our small-contract young players and make the $ work to S&T for Josh Smith, but we would have almost nothing left to sign other players.

Morey remained in Los Angeles after the Rockets’ dinner with Howard, speaking with other free agents, including a late Monday meeting with Hawks free-agent forward Josh Smith. Smith could be an option with or without Howard joining the Rockets, a person with knowledge of the Rockets’ thinking said Monday, but he is considered a long shot for them.

If the Rockets do not land Howard, they are expected to be careful to protect their cap flexibility for next season. If they do get Howard, they would be limited to a sign-and-trade deal with the Hawks and would be limited in what they could offer.

The question is, IMHO, where does DHoHo stand on this/is JSmoove a 'condition' of signing and/or is JSmoove pushing DHoHo for this?

SnT? I'd think Asik/Jones and it's a deal. Maybe also a #2? Sounds sufficient as pay for Hawks and for Josh.

I don't know, the way I see it the Hawks don't have much room for negotiation. Sure they can decline a sign and trade but they would lose him for nothing. Smith can say I want to play for the Rockets they are offering Asik + White straight up for me. Or I will just walk to Detroit who has no assets and is not willing to do a sign and trade so you will lose me for nothing. I am really hoping we don't have to part with more than one meaningful asset.

I am starting to think the Hawks would be thrilled with getting a player of Asik's caliber for someone who is definitely not returning. You also finally allow Horford to play PF which he has been begging to play since he came into the league.

Reading on here, yes, you'd think Smith was a requirement to get Dwight. I don't think it is.

Somehow, because Dwight asked about acquiring a third star(which Daryl denied btw, fwiw), that turned into "He wants Josh Smith" or "sign Josh Smith!"

Okay, so let's say he did ask about acquiring a third star. Did he say he would only sign if you got a third star right now? Did he ask about getting a star here in my first year here? Second year?

I don't really care for Josh Smith and definitely not at max money.

If Doc Rocket is to be believed, Smith and Dwight were the plan since the ASB, and they were part of the plan. Did you read docs final post?

Well if that's what they want, who they want, who am I to say otherwise? Ha.

Don't like the idea, don't care for Smith, but whatever. And no, I didn't read Doc's post, not here, not on twitter.

off topic, NO are trying to shop Lopez to free salary space, Camby has said he'd retire if he's stuck in Toronto, would you trade our sophomores to take them on when it's all said and done?

While I'd prefer Lopez, no doubt, it might be harder to work, Camby wants to win a ring, and it could be a delayed year to being our Mutombo.

If Camby had stayed in shape, hell yes but he blew it right after he left Houston. He should've stayed, could've used him instead of Greg Smith last year too!

This deal should really give them the big 3, Lebron-Bosh to join Wade feeling. Its such a huge opportunity how could they turn it down?

How about for Josh Smith and Kyle Korver?
Looks like the deal with the nets fell through.

Thanks for sharing the intresting article. I now understand how good he is on the defensive end, and can be on the offensive end. My feeling still remain as "he can be really good at offense but probably not" though. That's because I don't see such influential coaching ability in McHale's stuff. But at least I'm much more excited of Smith's joining than a few hours ago.
