You mean he could give us 3-4 years at superstar level play before breaking down? You're not okay with that? If you tell me right now Howard will be as productive as T-Mac for as long as T-Mac before going downhill, I will take that deal immediately.

Even if he's only 90% of his peak Orlando days, I have faith that Morey can put enough of a surrounding cast around him and Harden for a contender, as in top-5 team every year. And I will take that over likely 1st round exits and perennial waiting for a second star any day of teh week. Even if this means a bad breakup at the end.

Hard to say... because both are monsters at their craft. You could argue that defensive players are more durable of course.
Howard however cannot carry an offense or make clutch free throws.

Why would Howard need to carry an offense or make clutch FTs? He would, however, likely be able to prevent Jazz players to get offensive rebounds over and over to kill us in playoff games.

Because that is what Yao did . A max contract kind of guy.
Free throws are very important in a close play off series.

I remember we won against the Lakers because we were successful at hacking a Dwight.
Dwight at 27 or 28 is not going to get any better opposed to what some believe. He is a finished product so we will live and die by his game or lack of offensive game.

Who has a better chance of winning Western conference finals....a team with Dwight Howard on the line in a close game game 7 or a team that is sitting at home after being knocked out in first round?

You knew we had a chance against OKC even this year.
Who knows what we could do against Memphis. Sure we are one step away from the Spurs.
I am not saying I am against the signing so it does not really matter.
If we sign LeMarcus Aldridge, heck one David West kind of player, we make one huge step towards the 3rd round.

Believe what you will but I like our chances this way or another way.

Screw it, I'm with the OP. The one thing I will say in support of signing Howard is that, even injured, he led the league in rebounds. However, I would think most of Clutchfans would have had enough of the prima donna attitude to last a lifetime after the T-Mac era. This whole thing smacks of Pippen/Barkley. Howard is a guy who wants everything his way or he b****es and disappears, and he may be on the downslope of his career.

That being said, there is a tangible excitement in the air about the potential of it all, and I will be happy as ever to be wrong. There's always plenty of room on the bandwagon for Houston sports fans.

IF he signs, I will be happy.

But in my mind, it will still be Harden's team.

Apologies if this was posted, but just heard GREGG DOYEL discussing his latest rant on Mike & Mike slamming Howard

Whoever wins Howard sweepstakes will land the NBA's biggest loser

I guess the answer is to sign Howard, keep Asik... and then flip D12 at the trade deadline for LMA! ;)

Actually that would make a lot of sense business wise. However, Morey is already fighting against the image that he's an asset manager rather than general manager. It's going to make it even harder for him to acquire new players via FA in the future.

If the Rockets get DH12, this team is still only good enough for a second round of playoff this year. But it probably will help the recruit of more good players to play here in next year's free agency roundup.

I would do this in a second, and I'm not that high on LMA. We just need a four that badly.

All of war is based on deception, and in deception lies my secret hope: that all this Dwight pitch is an elaborate smokescreen to hide Morey's real target. LMA next to Asik would be sweet.

No, I meant an injured star with a bad attitude. There was a hint of that in Howard last season or two.

I'm torn in terms of wanting Howard here because of the level of excitement his play could bring. I don't believe that he has anywhere near the post game that warrants him 20 touches or more per night. That said I would rather trade Asik and Lin if necessary to Sac for Cousins. That move would still leave the Rox with money to pursue Josh Smith or fill the roster with a solid bench.
