I prefer trading asik for Lebron but I don't think it's gonna happen.

Hawks want Asik and would have to also take Lin to get it done. Comprende?

Um, yeah. It will. Lin backing out of games with a shoulder that feels hurty keeps us from getting to the finals.

Here is my argument, I believe that scoring more points than your opponent is what helps win games.

    Josh Smith

    http://www.82games.com/1213/1213ATL.HTM
    +3.6

    http://www.82games.com/1112/1112ATL.HTM
    +8.1

    http://www.82games.com/1011/1011ATL.HTM
    +6.4

    Jeremy Lin

    http://www.82games.com/1213/1213HOU.HTM
    -3.0

Asik on the same link is +5.9

This is not to say that Asik and Lin are not good players. It's saying, Josh Smith has proven he can make a team significantly better when he's on the court compared to when he is off. And he'd be doing this from the PF spot which is one of our weaknesses.

Atlanta could potentially sign and trade Teague and Smith to us and we both get a win win. This is because Lin is incredible when he's the best player on the team. With the Knicks he was +5.9, I believe.

Playoffs are about starters and stars that rise to the challenge, role players don't win championships. They are incredibly important for games where you need a spark, but the baseline of the team carries you to the Finals.

    Howard+Smith+Parsons+Harden+Teague >>>>> Howard+Jones+Parsons+Harden+Lin

Isn't there a website that shows FG percentage broken down by spot on the floor? I'd like to know how Smith's 17 footer compares with Aldridge's. My gut feeling is that Howard + Aldridge would be better than Howard + Smith.

The figures you provided is a setting where JSmith is the primary option. Would he still have the same output as the 3rd or 4th option? Just look at the drop off for players like Joe Johnson.

The question here is not whether Asik+Lin is better than JSmith, but whether JSmith is better than Zack Randolph or other FA coming up next year or the year after. If we have a lock on Harden and Howard for the next 4+ yrs, why the rush to add JSmith? The biggest hole on the team is still the 4 spot. JSmith will not be enough to take the team to the finals where as players like LMA, Zack R. and KLove will have that impact.

I agree, I think it is important to try and keep Lin and only trade him if it means we won't get Howard. I think Lin will play very well with Howard.

Why do the Hawks want Asik?

They lost out on the dream scenario of getting CP3 + Dwight. Josh Smith is gone. If I'm ATL why wouldn't I just join the Andrew Wiggins sweepstakes instead of acquiring a player like Asik who will help increase their win total next year?

Here are the plans I would use to put a team around Dwight and Harden in 2013 free agency:

    1. Sign Dwight Howard for max (or as close to max as he'll let me)
    2. Lineup (but not yet execute) S&T with Atlanta for Josh Smith for Asik/Royce White/2nd round draft pick and $1.7 million in cash to cover Royce's contract.
    3. Trade Jeremy Lin for draft picks then sign Calderon outright OR send Lin with picks in a S&T for Calderon ($4-5 mil / year for 3 years)
    4. Use remaining cap space (around $5-6 mil) to sign backup Center - Chris Kaman is my first preference or Samuel Dalembert
    5. Execute S&T from point 2.
    6. Use Room Exception on Garcia ($2.6 million)
    7. Fill out rest of the roster with veterans on the minimum - Chauncy Billups would be my first phone call!
    8. Win!

    Roster would look like this:
    Calderon/Beverley/Canaan
    Harden/Garcia
    Parsons/J.Smith/Garcia
    J.Smith/D-Mo/G.Smith/T.Jones
    Howard/Kaman(or Dalembert)

    Thoughts?

really dont seeing us having that much cash left...after dwight, and smith (will probably be around 11/12 mil per)...we wont have enough for Kaman, Garcia, Billups (who loves being on the Clips, btw), AND Calderon...

It's not about having cash left, it's about getting more space by trading Lin. Once you sign Dwight we'll be right at the cap. Selling Lin gives 8.3 million in more cap room. Then you can do the Calderon deal (whether it be by S&T or outright) using 4mil of that 8.3 cap room you have. Then go and use the remaining 4.3 on Kaman. Now you're at the cap again so you can S&T for J.Smith using Asik, etc etc etc.

    Make sense?

Oh, and the only reason I put Canaan on there was to illustrate ALL the players on the roster. He would be our 3rd string point guard only playing if someone gets hurt. That said, Billups (if signed) would obviously come into play on that depth chart moving Canaan to RGV for the whole season.

Regarding Billups; there is a vibe out there that because of the recent trade the Clippers did with Bledsloe that Chauncy is looking at other contenders (e.g. the Heat). Perhaps he will consider Houston if the above trades go down.

So on top of Josh Smith, Atlanta is going to gift us Jeff Teague when he's better than Lin in almost every category, the same age, and much cheaper? Lin is due a balloon payment of $15 million in two years. All this talk about whether to trade him is hilarious, considering he's almost untradeable.

Statiscally, Lin is really effective in PnR situation (Synergy tells us so), just as good as Harden.
I know he has to improve a lot to run the contending team next year, but why are you so down on him?
And the weirdest thing is, why do you think J-Smoove would be a good addition despite the fact that he's a terrible shooter anywhere on the court exept at rim?
