The Indiana Pacers are finalizing a three-year agreement with free agent David West, league sources tell Y! Sports.

Good for Indiana. I've always thought highly of West, probably because he destroyed whatever PF would try to guard him when the Rockets played the Hornets.

    Not surprised.

Solid stretch 4 who can spot up or be a bully in the post. Perfect compliment to Hibbert, and Indy's style of play.

Seems like a good number to for the market as a whole.
In many sense, West, Millsap and Smith are somewhat interchangeable.
Starting just under $12 million a year seems about right.
Would think of course Smith would want more, and Millsap might settle for less.

West is everything offensively Smith isn't and Smith is everything defensively West isn't. Millsap somewhere in between.

Nice. His style of play will let him be effective as he ages, too. Pacers are gonna be tough underdogs for years

Do you think Josh Smith gets a deal similar to this? With maybe an extra year?

Was hoping he'd go to the Spurs.

He'll probably get more just because he's young and will enter the market where multiple team will be fighting over him.

David best basically took a reasonable deal, not a real paycut but he probably could get overpaid if he wanted to.

Gwuaaah! You guys don't think 12m/yr is overpaying? That's around 3/4 of a max contract.

West is a solid 18-20 ppg, 10-12 rbg guy. He's a consistent jump shooter who brings a lot of toughness to the interior of the paint. I think 12m/yr is just about right.

He's never come close to averaging that many rebounds. Solid solid offensive talent though and at least decent on the boards and defensively (understands concepts, rotations, etc.).

I like West but he does have limitations and is 32 already.

I think 12M/per might be a bit high for West, but you have to consider that the Pacers are "right there" for contending in the East. They HAD to resign West.

I don't see Millsap getting that much. He looks more like an 8 or 9M/per type of player to me.

Josh Smith, depends on who gets him. Rockets won't overpay for him in any scenario. I think they would try to stay close to 12M/per. But other teams like Detroit might get it up to 14M or 15M/per.

I bet on Millsap getting at least 12 mil a year.

As for West getting 3/4 of a max contract... West is a two time all star who just had his arguably best season, despite not playing next to Chris Paul anymore. He was above average defensively, very good offensively, and brings toughness and leadership into the locker room.
He can create a shot / post up, spot up, pass... scores 17 efficient points a game on a slow paced team... it doesn't get much better from a below-max player.

12 mil is very nice for West. If he was 26 instead of 32, he'd be getting max, no questions asked.

That number seems about right to me. People saying its too much need to remember what the going price for big men is. Andrew Bogut is making $13.5M a year. Andris Biedrins is making $9M. Charlie Villanueva is making $8.6M. Perkins is making $8.5M. Kris Humphries is making $12M. Javale McGee $11M. Deandre Jordan $11M. Tyrus Thomas $9M.

West is my favorite guy on the Pacers to watch, he's just solid and versatile. Good signing.

So they're gonna pay this dude 12 million bucks when he's 36?! And he has bum knees.

Another terrible contract this offseason :(

No-brainer move for Indiana. They couldn't afford to let him walk and losing him wouldn't exactly position them to maneuver for a big name FA. But yes, he is overpaid. He's a current favorite "flavor of the month" who's sweet taste will soon fade when people remember he cant rebound.

Milsap, who I don't like that much, would have been a better option.

3 years isn't bad though, that final year the contract becomes valuable so you're really only committed for 2.

Safe play. Safe plays don't always win titles. But we'll see what they do about Granger.

Good that he's staying, he belongs there. Chemistry and just the team they have made this a no brainer. Don't underestimate what these things do.
