The Beatles http://music.yahoo.com/news/thirteen-dumbest-band-names-rock-history-183534272-rolling-stone.html Interesting to see The Beatles at #1 - their reasoning, it was patterned after The Crickets, and purposely misspelled to be a pun off of music "beats". I can see how that would be cheesy back in the day, but their talents drowned out the name, and history has forgiven them for it. I would also add Chumbawamba, Hootie and the Blowfish and Pappa Roach.
Because they made a lot of great music. Nunwhore Commando 666 has to top their list of best band names.
You also have to look at where Rock'n'Roll was at the time The Beatles hit. in the late 50's, Pop began to rule the airs because several things happened. Little Richard Went into a seminary Chuck Berry was arrested and went to jail (killing his career for a while) Elvis was drafted into the army (and everything he did after was much softer) Buddy Holly & Ritchie Valens died in a plane accident There were no more rock'n'roll stars, music was all pop music. The Beatles hit big in the early 60's and brought rock'n'roll back to life.
Bon Jovi?... sounds like a pastry at you local Cinnabon store... How about Meat Loaf? Sounds like your ordering at Luby's or something... ....... ....... .......
What about "Josie and the Pussycats"?!?!? Just DUMB. I mean, there's Josie, but... is she NOT a Pussycat? I know she's a... cat.
Most people who love The Beatles weren't even born during their heyday. Of course then you'll claim we're just giving into societal pressures and following the herd.
What about Earth, Wind, and Fire?!?!? I mean, they're neither! They've had like 23408374654872356 members... and neither was earth, wind, or fire. Phooey!
Can anyone think of a GOOD band name? I mean, most band names are really stupid if you just look at the name itself.
