Carl Landry was a 24-year-old rookie, so he's already 30 even though we don't remember him for being that old. Given this, my guess is that teams are going to be a bit cautious about paying him. Nevertheless, he's certainly played well enough to earn more than an 1 year, $4M contract. I am thinking that a team like Washington would make sense for him. Washington as actually not that bad last season after John Wall returned. They can really use an offensive punch like Landry if they look to win some games next season and finally make it to the playoffs again. If Landry doesn't get a good long-term deal, though, and the Rockets fail to land Dwight Howard/CP, I would not be surprised if HOU offers Landry, say, a 1 year $8M deal with 2nd year team option. He can help the team win next year and they get to save their 2014 cap room.
FWIW, as a Non-Bird free agent for Golden State, the Warriors could re-sign Landry to a five-year deal starting at $4.8 million (120% of his 2012-13 salary). I would not be surprised if this is the type of contract Landry ends up signing (although it may be a 3- or 4-year deal instead). As CH said, Landry is no spring chicken anymore, and he's been around the block a few times playing for several different teams. If he is truly happy in Golden State and believes they can be a winner, I think he'd take less money to stay there.
I'd be surprised at that. Landry seems to love the Warriors, but he's never had a big contract. This is his last chance at 29 years old, so it will be tough for him to take one so below market value. Jarrett Jack is in the exact same situation. Usually, it's guys that have made a ton of money that can afford to take a pay cut. Kevin Martin is 30 years old and has made more than Landry and Jack combined ($58 mil vs $47 mil), so I expect him to sign with a winning team no matter what.
Isn't this really risky, Warriors might look for a better PF option so there is a good chance he goes to a bad team.
Landry as a starter can give you 14 or 15 ppg, 7 boards, pretty darn good defense, blocks some shots, and is great in the clutch. Also he can play backup 5. He is money from mid-range which suits the Rox play of spreading the offense so that Lin and Harden can penetrate. I would take Asik at C and Landry at PF over Howard at C and Smith at PF any day. Ask is going to get better. Also you have to realize that should Howard sign and the Rockets not get to the second round of the playoffs--Howard will want out of Houston. Howard has no loyalities to the Houston Rockets any more than he does to the Lakers. Look at Chris Paul--Clippers aren't a championship team after one year--and he wants out. Howard's heart anyway is in NJ. Going after a guy like Landry makes sense: with Delfino, gone the Rox will need veteran leadership down the stretch and into the playoffs. Or why not make a run for Josh Smith? Get a good PF and keep Omer. Let's have some loyalty to the players we got for once, shall we? Forget the Dwightmare.
I'm all in favor of Mandry getting paid as much as he can possibly get. Dude took a bullet. I'd say 3-4 yrs at 5.5mil per is his market.
Landry certainly is a capable player and a good role player - 6th man off the bench. However, I think he is looking for long term contract rather than an increase in salary per year. team will prolly offer him 3 years with 4th yr being an option from team. I say around 6 millions a year for 3 years.
Landry on this team + Dwight Howard would be the greatest thing ever. It would be like the 2009 team all over again... except this time with a healthy Tracy McGrady.
