    Some thoughts...

Is it possible that Josh Smith was never utilized to his maximum potential in Atlanta? When thinking about the Atlanta Hawks, currently and in previous years with Joe Johnson, how would you describe their game or identity? Did they even have an identity let alone a successful scheme? Could it be described as, "Joe, do your thing, if you get stuck, then Josh and Al, go create..." Would Josh Smith and his skill set benefit with a defined role and a catering system?

Gerson Rosas, in the recent podcast, alluded to the fact that so many things have to go right for a player, for them to even get an opportunity to succeed, regardless of skill or talent.

Also, ponder upon the improvement in shooting (sometimes drastic and immediate) with players during their tenure with the Rockets such as Chandler Parsons, Kyle Lowry, Chuck Hayes (freethrows & layups), Asik (see Chuck Hayes), Patrick Patterson (3 pt).

You guys are tripping saying no to Smith, he's perfect for the rockets in just about every way.

Our biggest whole is the PF, we need defense and a P&R finisher badly. Josh does more then just fix those problems.

The only knock on Smith is his jumper (which IMO is good enough to demand respect to space the floor for Harden and Lin). He shot overall 30% on 199 3's which isn't good by any means but not exactly terrible... but he also shot 38.3% on 76 3's from two specific spots this season, and your going to have a hard time convincing me that our staff won't inform him of that.

For those of you using his shot selection as a excuse, just stop. He's the hawks leading scorer and his offensive skills are barley moderate, that should explain a lot. Its the hawks fault, he is forced to be the man on offense there when he should be a 3'rd option on O at most. Here on the rockets he will take MUCH less boneheaded shots, i trust our staff to really use him properly.

How often will we run across a completely perfect fit, at a position that is empty, while we having cap space? Go for it morey!

If we sign Smith but no Dwight, we can have $8-9 million left in cap space. We could hold onto that until next year, and if we can figure out how to include Lin, we can get a damn good player at that time. This would include keeping Asik, as we currently have the space to sign Dwight (at a much higher salary than JSmoove) and still keep everybody if we want to.

What's the most likely case if Morey doesn't sign Smith (who only plays for max) IF we happen to get Dwight?

    Morey...
    A. Says not worth max, we wait for 2014
    B. Thinks not worth gutting the team. Asik+Lin+prospects combined are valued more than Smith
    C. Couldn't find enough takers to dump contracts, or can't get back equal value
    D. Promised one or more of our guys they would not be traded

David West just got 3 years/$36 million.

I would expect Josh Smith to get a deal similar to that?

David West re-signed with the Pacers because that's his team: he fits in perfectly into their system, and he believes they can win a championship.

No, Josh Smith will want much more than that if he is going to another team he's never played for.

For the love of God, don't overpay Smith unless we absolutely have to in order to sign Howard.

$10-12 million if he wants to play with the new super team and acknowledge that he's neither the first or second scoring option.
