Makes ZERO sense. Smith is not the guy you blow your FA wad on unless your a team like the Pistons. Didn't Feigan say if we missed on Paul and Howard the Rockets would keep their cap flexibility and try again next year?

You only sign Smith if Howard is aboard to make your run now. Smith alone is a second round exit at best.

He just came off a $13mill/yr contract. No way he settles for equal or lesser value.

If Dwight's not coming, he's asking for $16mill

I believe Chandler has 2 more years on his contract, at which point Asik and Lin's contracts will have ended.

If Morey wouldn't give Gortat the full MLE I highly doubt that he makes Josh Smith our highest paid player.

I'm going to be vet disappointed if all we end up with is Josh Smith and have no cap room left. I would much rather keep the same team, have cap flexibility for a trade for a better power forward.

Absolutely untrue. The Rockets have been one of the most shrewd teams in the NBA when it comes to decision making with their money.

We're not going to sign Smith to an unreasonable contract that won't allow him to be moved, should the opportunity present itself next year, for a guy like LMA or Kevin Love. People need to chill. He's not great shakes or anything, but he is a major upgrade relative to what we have at the 4 now.

Are you guys forgetting that the Hawks are a 44 win team with Josh and probably worse than 30 wins without him?

$16mill/yr would equal the same as Harden ($80mill / 5yrs). So its not the highest but equal.

I don't think Smith deserves it. I think Smith deserves $12mill/yr. But he believes he's worth more. I'm sure he thinks he's worth more than Gortat.

Don't you love people coming in and talk about contract education and have no idea how re-signing your own players work? It's almost like bird never existed

Nope. If its a contending team then you pay parsons what he's worth. Please go study cap rules before you come in criticizing others on "education"

Just to be clear: This is still Spears reporting this. WOJ is not reporting it.

It is definitely an upgrade at PF, but I don't think we will contend for any titles with that lineup.

Dwight Howard = Marginal Improvement at Center

Josh Smith = Massive Improvement at Power Forward

If we get josh smith we'll be the Atlanta Hawks of the West, which is good enough for a 4 seed and bounce in the 1st or 2nd round. Joe Johnson at his prime is pretty close to a James Harden.
