Dallas is a bigger media market than Houston and has a much better recent track record. Dallas has never had trouble being "on the list."
Recap of what I heard: -Host asks where Jeremy Lin stands with Rox because he wasn't at meeting. -Daryl: Dwight is excited to play with Omer and Jeremy. He's seen the rumors. Dwight likes that the ROX are team China and likes that Jeremy attacks as a guard. He likes Omer. Their names have been out there in rumors. Rumor that Omer would be available is not true. Originally they were trying to create room people called IN about Jeremy and Omer. Not looking to move either. -Host: So if you could sign Dwight and keep the lineup in tact you'd want to do that? Keep Omer in starting lineup with Dwight? -Daryl: No. They wouldn't play together, maybe sometimes in experiments. We feel with both playing (Omer as backup) they have top 10 defense on floor at all times. -Host: Omer would be a HUGE luxury though? -Daryl: Yeah, people say that but we don't look at it that way. What Omer would bring in his minutes is bigger than what another player would bring that we would trade him for. An upgrade at the 4 wouldn't bring as much to the team as Omer in 15-20 minutes. -Host: You are just worried about the drop off in rebounding. -Daryl: Dwight was #1 impact defender in league and Omer was top 5. -Host: Dwight is plan A. If you don't get Dwight would you try to float the cap space? No long term deal? Or is good plan B out there? -Daryl: Couple of things. If we don't get Dwight we will be HURT. We would NOT have done TROB deal. We've gambled on Dwight. We are waiting on him and missing other moves in free agency, but we are fully committed to bringing Dwight here. -Host: Recap: Most important thing you said is that Jeremy Lin and Omer are not available. Only last resort if S&T to get dwight? -Daryl: No sign and trade to get Dwight. Lakers are not interested in doing that. We have the room to sign him on the 10th and we hope he goes our direction.
"There will be no S&T with the Lakers. They're going all out to get him. They're not going to help him go somewhere else"- Morey So i guess he's confident GSW aren't getting him
Youre wrong. Your statement is agreeable in terms of all teams this season is going through what we went through last year. We never had a shot at Carmelo or Bosh or anyone else of that caliber. Carmelo was set for NY, bosh set for MIA (pics of big 3 and never met w/ rockets). This year we have the best possible position to land Howard, no one else comes close. Howard will be a Rocket and we all knew this since April.
Morey considers a defensive 5 backup spot to be of greater value than an upgrade at the 4 spot.. 15-20 minutes anchors the defensive 5 spot is more important than upgrading our weakest spot (the 4).. Very focused on defense with great 5's Would NOT have done the TRob deal if we thought we wouldn't get DH May miss out on other FA's while we wait on DH, but we are fully committed to getting DH here, so not focused on 'plan B's' right now Definitely wants Lin & Asik to stay Will NOT be doing an S&T for SH
Stein: Dwight meeting with his future team today? You can't say that because Houston is part of the equation. I've been saying he's going to Texas. I do think he's leaving. There is definitely tangible fear within the Lakers he's leaving. I'd still give the Rockets the edge but the gap is not as wide as advertised between Dallas and Houston, with LA running third. I think he'll sign definitely on July 10 but if word comes out he's given a verbal on the 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th, whenever he gives that verbal, that team will be sweating it until the 10th until he signs. Any of the teams feel like they have a good idea of where he wants to go and what he wants? People around the league, several teams have been saying the Rockets act like they got this. Dallas is confident too. These meetings are like surgeries. The next time they say it goes badly will be the first time. Both Dallas and Houston have compelling pitches. Home teams can give the extra year and money, that might save the Lakers. Everything else being equal, he's ready to go somewhere else. What is Howard looking for? I think he understands that he's been beaten up by us on the outside and will only shut us up by winning. That's what gives Houston the slight edge. He has the best chance to immediately compete. Dallas will sell him on the proven track record, Dirk will take a pay cut, Carlisle is a championship coach, you'll get to a championship faster than in Houston. He has to calculate who will give him the best chance. Lakers don't feel closer to a championship than the Rockets right now.
Morey seems like a straight up guy but it's hard to not believe the Asik/Lin rumours. Getting a 3rd star will prob require moving one or both player. I think he's just being politically correct by saying what he did. It has a grain of truth if they can't move the players, you don't want to upset them too much.
To Be more specific.. GSW-MAVS-LAL-ATL is going through our situation last year. However, Howard met with all of them. IMO he just wants attention and feel wanted just like how we all did when we were kids. Ill Poopslap myself if he doesn't join the rockets
Yeah, I'd like to just add Dwight to the current roster. I think Omer & Lin help this team better this next year than who's actually available. Now the day K-Love or LMA are available at the 4 we can have that discussion.
Pff, Houston would be the Texas team with the better proven track record if it was Dirk who came down with chronic foot/back problems. Does anyone really take that seriously?
just saying I already knew this lol. thats why we need to take all these new rumors with a grain of salt. Doc said hes coming here, and thats my stance until otherwise. ANY sign and trade rumors are not true...period. i do not know who is putting out all these false rumors. But there will be no sign and trade. Not with the warriors, not with the clippers and not with anyone. Its going to come down between, us, lakers and dallas. I feel morey has more then just a "good" feeling. He said they would not have traded t-rob unless they knew they were getting howard.
