thanks i'll check those sites out I appreciate the feedback. Part of that might be with me using a friend's ****ty mic that gets distorted if I rap too loud, my delivery is definitely always a work in progress though. Thanks for giving my work a listen.
Finally gave them a listen.. I'm not really a fan of your style of delivery... Not to say it's bad but definitely not what I'd hit repeat for. It sounds as if you're trying to read an excerpt out of a well written book fast enough to stick to a beat yet still hardly pocketing the beat. Doesn't sound timed well. Unless that's just the style/flow you're trying to stamp as your own (ala some of Aesop Rock's older material), then to each his own. But otherwise, I'd suggest for you to chill on the syllables per bar. IMO Your message gets lost in translation this way and your flow gets redundant very quick. Especially after the first track, I was hoping that was just you experimenting. Question: Do you write your raps then find a beat you deem suitable for the mood/feeling you're trying to convey??? I couldn't imagine actually penning the verses to the beats you're using. If that's the case, I'd love to hear you choose a beat and write your verses TO the beat. That way you're pocketing the flow / riding the beat more fluently. Otherwise it sounds like you're just forcing too many words into your bars which I imagine would get old quick with the average ear. Honest criticism. I hear the potential though.
Here is some songs from Mixtapes and CDs that i've been jamming to on heavy rotation. Freddie Gibbs ESGN(EVIL SEED GROWS NATURALLY) CD is decent to me. Some of the beats sounds generic but the songs that I love are some of his best. Sounds great in a car. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/IVMcNhbOZJU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/qtl0yebLXz4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/JVx29KZhXtk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Tito Lopez Y.O.U. - Mississippi native that put this mixtape out last week. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/CuBehUMm9qw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/TPG03ZEkYJE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/RaC7eDEQrY0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> DeLorean Grace- Houston still has some music coming out that plays in my car. Totally missed this post, sorry about that. Thanks for taking the time to listen and give some honest feedback TDub I really appreciate it. I'm starting to realize I've been pushing it too much with the syllables per bar, I guess I had it stuck in my had that people would find this most impressive just because of how impressed I was when I first heard styles like that. But you're right the meaning can get lost, it's tough to do good hip hop without substance. I do have a habit of writing verses either to no beat in particular (like with classical music playing), or to a particular beat but then trying to use it with different ones. Although "Fake Raps" was certainly written for that beat but I was definitely going for a super fast, technical style that the average listener might have a tough time appreciating (and which I may or may not be pulling off all that well). My style is definitely experimental though. Your criticisms and others have got me going back to the drawing board which is something I love doing, so thanks. I realize you have a song posted also, bout to give a listen and return the favor.
Great song man. Love the falsetto singing. Your flow on the verses is really on point and goes well with the funky ass music. Honestly I wish I could give you a few paragraphs of notes like you did for me but I dunno what all I could really tell you. My only complaint would be that it isn't necessarily my favorite style of hip hop but that's not really a criticism just personal preference. For what you're trying to do you do it well, keep going with that and you guys should have success. I would definitely be in the crowd dancing like a geek if this song was being played live haha.
Houston's own. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/X4MSlFq8bNI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
