ATL would love? I have serious doubts about that. Asik is a solid player but no way the Hawks trade him for Smith straight up. That's why I have a hard time believing the Hawks S&T Smith the Rockets...just don't think they have enough to give back.
The half court post up offense that Atlanta ran also contributed to Smith's inefficiency. Plus he was forced to be the primary or secondary, when he really should be the third option. Rockets run an offense that is more up & down - fast paced/with better half court spacing which is much more conducive to Smith's skillset and strengths. When was the last time the Rockets had a shut down defender AND offensive threat at the 4 spot? Even without Dwight, Josh Howard is a great fit for this current Rockets' team.
Josh Smith and the salary he commands could likely cost us Parsons when it comes time to resign. Then again we could always trade Smith in 2 years so yeah do it.
Well les said he doesnt mind paying taxes for a championship caliber team. Well have his BIRD rights so we can keep him if we really want to
Laughing out loud at you guys that don't want Josh Smith in his prime We were a terrible defensive team last year. You have to realize that while being the best offensive team in the league without defense is going to lead to obviously less wins. Josh Smith is athletic, offensively better than every one of our current PFs, and defensively better than every one of our current PFs. With him and Dwight at the front mixed with Chandler at the 3, we become a sick defensive team. Yes, his jumper isn't pretty and inconsistent. Yes, he isn't even average at shooting free throws But the guy is everything we need at the 4 spot which includes - Above average rebounding - DEFENSE - Ability to handle and pass the ball (career high in assists last season) - Finish at the rim - Score If you can get him, you get him. You people saying AK47 or Terrence Jones (who I love) are crazy
You are under the false assumption that Atlanta intends to re-sign Josh Smith, who is an unrestricted free agent. All indications are that Josh Smith will not be returning to Atlanta next season. The Hawks simply don't feel he's worth what he'll get in the open market. So either Atlanta lets Josh Smith walk for nothing, or they at least get Omer Asik in return.
Yeah I don't get the Josh Smith hate either... Sure, he's flawed. But 17 and 8 for about an 18 PER? With some pretty good defense too to help out our previously horrible defensive team? Not too bad for your 3rd dude. Should he get the max? No. But paying him 12-13 mil I think would be fine.
Hack-a-Dwight would be bad enough, but throw Hack-a-Smith in with that distasteful defensive strategy, and you have the makings for an ugly game.
It's more than just theater, there's a real effort behind his courtship, but perhaps they're sticking to a reasonable contract offer they will refuse to budge from. I don't like him either. There's lots of room to improve his offensive efficiency - just have him take less 3's, but yeah... offensively... just not all that exciting.
I think Josh Smith will go to Houston because he knows that we have a good team and more importantly James Harden. If he learned that Rockets told him that they are planning to sign him and Howard, he should seize an opportunity to become new Big Three. I would be surprised if he turn down Rockets. I don't see why Josh Smith should sign with other teams other than Houston.
He's Mario Williams.... His potential is crazy high and sometimes he shows it to you, but most of the time....he's cool breeze, hence JSmoove Too cool to actually try ALL THE TIME. He's good...but he could be way better if he wanted.
Why do all this when you can trade asik and force them to take white in return for a salary to smith up to $15m (no more than $12m per I hope). Besides throb is gone.
