Morey should consider sending both to ATL if he can....

    Atlanta should then sign Ellis......

it's not so much that people are clamoring for it, but rather dwight wants it and if you want dwight, you make this happen. Because if you don't, dallas can make it happen.

but i agree with you in regards to spacing and so forth. but, it is what it is and the coaching staff will have a tough job next year making it all fit.

I think this is a good point. The one thing I will say about turnovers, Josh Smith will no longer be a focal point of the offense and his shooting percentage should improve ans so will his turnovers. Lin's will too because he is dumping down to Howard. The free throws are scary. Smith isn't as bad, most season he has shot .65+

Mathematically, you can pay Josh Smith quite a bit while trading only one of Lin and Asik.

For example, lets say you take Asik's $8.37M, then add Royce White's $1.72M and TJone's $1.55M, you get about $11.64M, which allows you to take back $16.64M in first year salary. $16.64M should be right around the max allowed for Josh Smith.

Now, whatever one's opinion is of Jeremy Lin, he figures to fill a bigger need than Jones and White (or DMo and White) in the event of Josh Smith+Dwight acquisition and he is more NBA ready than the young PF prospects (each of who has a chance of panning out or failing). One reason why you might include Lin, though, is if you are looking to receive another salary back-- Maybe a signed and traded Zaza Pachulia to fill the hole Asik left behind?

Teague is Restricted. He can't leave for nothing.

where do i begin to dissect this?

-the high number of turnovers is a result of them getting the ball more on lesser teams. if they all play together, then they will each get less touches which means lower turnover rates from an individual standpoint.

-josh smith and howard are the same defenders? haha. so what that they both block shots? they are completely different in this regard. smith does it with athleticism while howard does it with size and positioning. smith is active and athletic enough to roam the perimeter and create hell. while having a huge safety net in howard backing him up. we had no mobile defenders last year at PF and C. we would have 2 of the best at their positions in smith and howard. the difference in our defense would be night and day with those 2.

if you can get smith with losing just asik and keeping lin, with this lineup, you HAVE to bring lin in as a sixth man. doesn't make sense for him to start when there is plenty of offensive firepower in that first group. it'd be a total waste of his talent to have him take 3 3pt/gm and that's it. that second group would be awesome with lin and parsons and smith. heck that's almost like our starting unit this past year at times.

and bev can take his 2-3 3pts/gm, avg 8 and 2, and play relentless D for 25min/gm.

It will either be a sign and trade to Atl involving Asik and some package to bump up matching salaries for Josh Smith, or it will be Asik and Lin BOTH traded for cap space and Josh Smith signed outright.

You can't trade one of them and have enough cap space to sign Josh Smith outright. You have to trade both.

If you want to keep one, then the other has to be part of a sign and trade to ATL along a random assortment of young PFs for salary matching. Since Josh SMith reportedly wants max. And he has the leverage if Dwight won't sign without his buddy Josh.

And since ATL has Teague as a cheap young restricted free agent, their future PG needs are already met. They'll only want Asik and assets.

If Asik is traded to another team other than Atlanta, then expect Lin to be traded, too, for the cap space to give Josh Smith a near max contract outright.

The only way to keep one of Asik/Lin is if Asik is included in a sign and trade to ATL.

Trading away Lin doesn't allow you to keep Asik since it doesn't open up enough cap space to give Josh Smith a near max contract. Trading Asik away to any team other than ATL also doesn't allow you to keep Lin. But trading away Asik to ATL does allow you to keep Lin.

I guess Morey will look at what the offers on the table are and map out whichever path gives him the most return.

Don't get me wrong, Smith will help. He is just not worth the kind of money he will probably be asking for.

I'm not someone that believes Smith is a good fit for the rockets personally. I feel is one of the most inefficient guys in the NBA. But I guess I don't have all the information that the scouts have.

Probably, but not if Dwight insist on playing with his childhood friend, or if Morey thinks that this will help seal the deal and make it more likely that Dwight will sign. It would be overpaying Josh Smith at max or near max, but that's the price to bring in Dwight, maybe.

You do not give Smith to $16.64M, never, so there is no need to create that amount of money for him. I do not think Morey will pay him for this kind od money unless Howard deal requires Smith as a must.

so we have to get Smith in order to seal the Howard deal ? Where is this coming from ? Is it the same source that told us we had to get Chris Paul to seal the Howard deal ? I'm sure they would like to play together and Josh Smith would be a cherry on top for Howard, but who has ever reported that it's make or break for him ?

And to the guy who said we should start Smith's contract at $16 mil... holy ***** man. the guy is ROLE PLAYER and a 3rd or possibly 4th scoring option. Giving this guy all star money is the quickest way to make us the Atlanta Hawks of the western conference.

He's not worth it, but I don't think the deal would be based purely on merit but on him being a lure for his childhood friend Dwight. Which means Smith gets leverage to demand max or near max if Morey is desperate for Dwight. And Dwight did reported ask how the Rockets can open up space for a 3rd max contract, looking out for his friend Josh, maybe.

Josh Smith is garbage. Such a backwards step if you sign him.

This...the guy takes wayyyyyy to many jump shots and makes some dumb mistakes...$12 million for this guy? I don't see it. I hope someone other than the Rockets overpays him.
