It is definitely a tough pill to swallow but considering how awesome our defense would be with howard and smith u almost have to do it. Our lineup would be instant contenders.
At times, Smith plays like he's worth 15 mil. If McHale can get him to be more consistent/smart, then he can live up to the contract. For Dwight, it's worth the risk imo
If we want both D12 and JSmoove, does that mean we'd have to do a S&T with either LA or ATL to get them both here?
I don't know. You'd have two hack-a-sucky shooter contenders, plus the other team would be thrilled to let Josh Smith shoot the ball all night long from the perimeter.
I don't agree with this at all. I think even without Dwight Howard or any other additions (barring re-signing Delfino/Garcia), this exact same team would be a middle seed this year and would likely make it out of the first round of the playoffs. I don't think a Dwightless team would be a top contender for a championship, but it would at least be a dark horse. Add Dwight and an MLE signing into that mix, and we're improving anywhere from 10-15 wins over last season. We're in the top 3 seeds in the West, and we're true championship contenders. That's with no third star, nothing but what we have now + Dwight + MLE. People seriously underestimate how deep this team is and how much improvement it's going to make simply on the basis of young players getting better. We can stand toe to toe with any team in the league with Dwight Howard onboard.

Who wants to play second fiddle to an aging superstar? I think Dwight really thought it was his team.
Won't happen. GSW only won 2 more games than us last season as an older, more experienced team, and they would have to subtract from that core in a SnT in order to sign Howard. Probably substantially so. I think Houston is already a better team than GSW going into next season due to the natural improvements our young players are going to make, AND we don't have to give up any part of our core to sign Dwight. He knows this, he's not an idiot. Besides, I doubt the Lakers agree to a SnT with GSW even if Dwight says he wants one. As already mentioned, they're in lux tax hell, and the pieces GSW have to offer aren't that appealing (unless they offer Curry, in which case why would Dwight want to sign there).
I want to start fantasizing about filling in the rest of the rockets roster ect., but because its Dwight Howard and the Lakers I just won't let myself go there "yet". LOL. I totally agree with you, if it were anyone else this would have been a slam dunk no brainer signing.
