Someone correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Rudy T leave the Rockets due to health reasons?

IF the Rockets land Dwight, Im confident in Morey & co. putting together a strong enough surrounding unit of role players (mostly veteran) that would make it easy for any legit NBA coach to have good success throughout the season.

The stars are where the difference is made, but the complementary pieces can be the straw that stirs the drink.

In the playoffs, if the Rockets got into a bad matchup, maybe McHale has a few goof-ups here and there, but nothing that should keep them from getting to that point to begin with. The important part is going to be the preparation that comes in putting together sets on both ends that makes the players maximize their production on both ends.

Remember, McHale is the one that made the call to go super small in I think it was game 4 against OKC to turn the series around. I believe McHale isn't so stubborn that he wont make the right judgement calls in game planning to change a series around. I do think he has the guts to do that.

Plus, McHale has one of, if not the best, supporting cast of assistant coaches the NBA has to offer. If something happens where they need to move on from McHale, Im confident in one of the assistants taking over.... still I dont think that will be the case.

"Not making the playoffs" is pretty unhealthy if you a coach. I think Rudy T is a great coach. I think he was a lousy GM. However he maximized talent better than anyone. He won 45 games with basically steve and Cat. His isoball caused stern to change the rules.

I don't think we fired him though. If I remembered correctly, he had health issues and essentially retired before returning as a talent scout for Lakers. Am I wrong?

I think McHale would be the perfect coach. If you bring in both D12 and JSmoove then you are going to need someone that can manage personalities as well as coach. That is what Phil Jackson was always great at. The Rockets have a great coaching staff period. Players love and respect McHale because he has skins on the wall.

Absolutely Kevin McHale is the coach for a championship team.

I had more doubts about McHale coaching a bunch of youngsters than I do him coaching a star studded team. If we do get Smith and Howard, I'm confident that McHale can coach them well. In fact, McHale may actually convince Smith to stop taking 20 footers all the time and make him an above average offensive player.

He resigned as head coach due to his illness. At least that's what the official word is.

McHale is far from the often referred to McFail. I think he has had two promising winning seasons (One season with playoff push) with what he had. McHale made Parsons a starter in his rookie year. This year we reached playoffs.

Weather he is or not the man for the job he is highly deserving of the chance and opportunity to see where he can take a possibly stacked team. I'm excited of what McHale will do and bring to the team. As players get better with time, practice, experience, and court time...

Who is to say McHale Coaching skills won't excel to elite? (fingers crossed)

Wishful thinking but who knows anything is possible

I think McHale will do great with Howard and Smith if we get him, players love playing for him and he has surrounded himself with a GREAT supporting assistant coaches

If McHale is not yet a proven coach, he will grow to be one. He's staying. We've been overachieving these last two years.

I understand that Mchale is a great motivator and coach but there are questions about him being able to game manage during crucial periods. He is the coach of the Rockets for at least the next year and maybe two. If he performs well next year then the questions will be answered.

Les Alexander never fires coaches. He just forces them to resign or not renew contracts.

Rudy T, JVG, and Adelman were all forced out. I would not be surprised if McHale got the same treatment somewhere down the road.

+1. We already saw what he was capable of during the playoffs. We fell short on talent, not x's and o's.
