Compared to Rondo, Lin is Steve Kerr Any PG that can shoot the lights out and simply manage the offense is the ideal fit, so moving Lin is for the better, but not for Rondo.
Ok great. I didn't know if you had to be under the cap for the salary matching rules to apply. Good to know.
Makes sense to offer Lin S&T with Lin and Asik would allow us to compete competively for Josh and plus save some cash for fillers around them. My only concern is that Josh is not efficient from the 3 or 2. He must seriously work on his jump shot and selection. Calvin loves this guy and I hope he teaches him how to shoot.
My Realtor friend source just told me Josh Smith was in Houston looking at Houses. He also told me that Smith has a pre-recorded video of him playing knockout at GSU in case this info gets leaked.
do not want. his jumper is broken and he barely makes 1/2 his freethrows. don't want this guy ruining our spacing all season and then choking away games in the playoffs
Not a fan of pairing to two, but if it seals the deal on Howard, then I guess you have to take the plunge.
I have my concerns for Josh Smith as Im sure the front office does as well. I think the biggest plug for this starting lineup will be getting the right PG to come in and add the missing ingredient they need. Thinking more, and more about it, Jose Calderon seems to be a perfect complement to other 4 starters, and could come at a price that allows them to fit him in one of their exceptions. If the Rockets are able to get Smith & Howard, and aren't able to move Lin, I think there could be serious issues offensively that this team would need to look at. However, I dont see Lin not being moved at some point this Summer if they are bringing in Smith.
On second thought I think Morey has got a long term plan going on with the signing of Smith. Immediately it helps seal the deal with Dwight and confers a lot of potential to the team. BUT long term, I think his contract will be huge in getting a disgruntled superstar like an LMA or a Kevin Love. Those guys arent being traded now and could be traded in the future. Why not have an attractive trade piece that will match those guys' contract. While I don't like the fit of Smith I like the fact that we can trade him later in a Kevin Martin mode and get a better piece later on.
I don't think we would have any troubling offensive issues if we kept Lin. He would probably be more of a facilitator, and he has shown he can make the right pass at times. I just don't know about Calderon, over 30 and atrocious defense. His nice shooting percentage is certainly intriguing though.
I agree, and especially if it costs trading Asik. Asik for LMA is ok with me, if we can add Howard and keep most of our core. I know that will be hard to pull off.

Personally I think a S&T would involve Asik and one of our PFs. This includes the possibility of Royce White being that PF, likely with the Rockets sending the Hawks some pick(s) to help facilitate the deal. This will allow Smith's starting salary in the $14mil range, which should be more than enough. Even if another team offers him more money, I doubt it's much more than this. Surely Smith would take less money to be on a star studded team.
Smith: 46.5% FG, 30.3% 3PT, 51.7% FT, 17/8/1.8 BLK/1.2 ST 3.0 TO Advanced: TS% 50.1%, EFF 19.8, WS 8.3 Asik :54.1% FG, no 3, 56.2% FT, 10/11/1.1 BLK/0.6 ST 2.1 TO Avanced: TS% 55.8%, EFF 17.6, WS 10.5 We know Asik didn't take many shots away from the rim but here are Smith's numbers: 3-9 FT: 40%, 10-15 FT: 24%, 16-23 FT: 33% I get that playing Asik and Howard together creates spacing issues but trading Asik for Smith doesn't fix that (not to mention the large difference in salaries). And if we're not trading for Smith's offense, then we must be trading for his defense. Smith's perimeter defense is excellent but we would be asking him to guard 4's. There's no way his post defense is better than Asik's. If we do happen to encounter a stretch 4, parson's can take those minutes. It's also possible that Howard could take the quicker matchup leaving Asik to slug it out with the other team's trash man. We don't need Josh Smith unless he's coming cheap.
This. I think we all agree Smith isn't the ideal third in a big 3 but if it helps to lure Howard then I think you have to do it. Top defensive teams make the finals and if nothing else Howard and Smith would make for great interior D. Someone like the pelicans will offer him max money. He made 13.2 last year and this is one chance for a big contract. I'm hoping for 12 but I think it will be 14m first year with raises.
I just threw up in my mouth.... Can you imagine the floor spacing with Howard, Smith, and White all sharing the same frontcourt? Nothing against you meh, but that **** is ugly.
