The thing is even if they tried to tank. They still have Kobe, Gasol. Which defeats the purpose of tanking, because they would still be in contention to make playoffs. When is the last time the Lakers tanked?

We can offer the Lakers a better deal than the Warriors. Lin, Asik, DMo or TJones, draft pick we just got, young Euro stash, etc.
lmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaao they're going to offer him a reality show???! holy ****, if he takes that it says all you need to kno about him
But they would taking a HUGE hit money wise by taking back salary because they are so far over the lux line with the harsh tax penalties just for essentially Harrison Barnes or Klay Thompson.
touche I remembered incorrectly....just checked shamsports and you are correct....this is the last year of his 14M deal.
Oooh....thanks jayhow...that goes a long way of alleviating my Golden State fears. Roster wise I think we have a slight edge, our ability to bring in Smith is big, and I think our long term flexibility is good -- but they did seem to me to be the 2nd most logical choice from a basketball roster perspective for Howard to go to, and I thought it was close. However, with everything else being equal (and I think it sort of is), the tax breaks in Texas has to be a good factor for us.
Just to be clear, no matter what he decides to do, he's free to change his mind right until he signs the contract next week, correct?
If his decision is going to be based on whether or not he gets his own TV show.......well, I don't know what to say. Can CSN Houston get him his own show? Oh, that's right. No one in Houston will be able to watch it.
The Lakers cannot win the argument on the court, they are simply not as good an option as the Rockets or GS... thus they have to present what they CAN give him, and that is $$$$ and celebrity and endorsements. However, I will say this, name the last Lakers star without a ring that anyone cared about in 2-3 years?
