Hmm, that's what Calderon can't do - Stay in front of his man.

Basically, Harden is already porous on D. You don't want both members of your backcourt to be bad on D, or the frontcourt will get into foul trouble very quickly.

Love his 3pt shooting though, although he's not a transition type of PG.

Esp if we throw in some PFs it could easily cover his salary. Depends how keen you are to move Lin.

Yuck. I have no interest in Smith for 12 million dollars.

I trust Morey but I really hate Josh Smith the basketball player.

I read this as ABJs must somehow find a way to move Jeremy Lin and clear up "some" cap space. Let's totally ignore the 150% trade rule.

But what if bringing Smith on board nets you Howard?

I'm not a huge fan either, but it's undeniable that he has plenty of talent if used properly and maybe a change of scenery will do him some good. Maybe he could mature similar to the way Zach Randolph has.

Signing Smith definitely wouldn't be "Morey-ball", but if we get Dwight I think all bets are off and we go all in.

The only real problem with Smith is his mental mindset regarding his basketball skills on the court.

He is a guy who can do it all, EXCEPT shoot the ball, the one thing he is so determined to do every night. If he gets paired with the right coach and staff that can show him his efficiency levels and when he's truly at his best, I know he can finally be that monster he has shown to be on both ends of the court.

I believe in our system and with our leaders we can finally help Josh realize his true potential.

If that's what it takes then OK.

    I'll grin and bear it.

He's at his best in transition and shots at the rim.

How does that work when the guy you're pairing him up with dominates the paint?

Who would want to live and work in Detroit if you had a choice?

Lol I agree with you and trust me I feel the same way 100%! I think many us on this BBS do not want Smith's "talents", but since Howard and Smith are BFF then we might have to bite the bullet on this one.

THIS! I've got NO interest in pickin up the tab on the max deal that JSmith covets.... let alone give up assets to do it.... TY I'll keep Asik and the other 3-5M in capspace....

We're still going to run a version of our uptempo team, to create easy baskets of course, both Dwight and Josh would excel in those opportunities the way our other big men and fours did this past season.

And it's not like we're just going to slam the ball down to Dwight every single trip down the court, I'm hoping their will still be other offense ran besides pick and roll and post plays. Even while Dwight is in the post we will have guys cutting and slashing to the basket, we won't always have 3 point shooters to surround Dwight with but will still do our best to create easy buckets near the rim.

Josh Smith is far from my first choice at being the third of our Big 3 but if Morey believes it works I do so as well. Besides with a defensive frontcourt of Dwight, Smith, and Parsons don't you think we'll be running much more fast break offense than we ever did with the team assemble this past season? I would think so... that's just me though.

Elite defensive talent is usually the key to the third part of a big 3.

At the point where we s&t'd Smith, it would be whether Les will pay, we'd be going over the cap anyway.

I think that Josh Smith as the third wheel of the Houston's big Three, would be fantastic.

Josh Smith, bring elite defensive ability in the post (and we all saw what Roy Hibbert did to Miami). Which would allow Howard to concentrate more on his offense; while still playing his above average defenses. And with Harden continuing to develop his offensive game, his play-making ability will only improve much more with a dominant offensive player like Howard.

Plus Chandler Parson, could regain his rookie focus on elite defensive ability. He's been asked to take too much of the offensive load on his shoulders, which he's done well.

Wow, it really does seem the Rockets are trying to build a team for the decade.

    C - Howard
    PF - Josh Smith
    SF - Chandler Parson
    SG - James Harden
    PG - ?????

I think that is the point here. No Smith is not a #1 or #2 guy on any NBA team but as a third viable option he could be great (see Chris Bosh). It's hard to score when team game plan on stopping you and maybe someone else, but when your the third option and you don't have that much pressure on you it does wonders for your confidence.

Josh would have to show some brain capacity and intangibles that I've never seen before to make this work.

We would have to do a lot of what finally enabled the Lakers to effectively play Gasol/Dwight together - play the 4 in the high post, run PnR's with the 4 and trying to create lobs and looks at the basket for Dwight that way.

I have a very hard to envisioning Josh getting many post-up looks with Dwight on the court. Spacing would suck and even if you pulled Dwight away from the basket, no defender is going to take the threat of D12 lining up at 15-feet seriously.

I still think we'll run primarily a PnR based attack and I'd imagine one of the main sales pitches we're using to Dwight's camp is the idea of adding a top five player to the core of a 45-win basketball team. In reality, we would have to change very little about our offense and rotation to make this work. So I don't expect any dramatic changes.

Hmm...Why did they meet then if Detroit didn't have an offer for him? Is it possible he told them he is headed to Houston?

That would be a title contender for the next 5 years, and possibly beyond. As long as our PG can shoot 3s and not turn the ball over, we'd be golden.
