this would be a huge mistake. smith isn't a good offensive player. at best he's neutral, at times he's a downright negative. if smith is taking touches away from parsons, and our other guys, then he's making our offense worse. bottom line. and for those saying to reduce his shot attempts, and take better shots, lol...that's the same thing they've been wishing for his entire career. what expects it to change now? he has horrible shot selection and is not a good jumpshooter. i'd certainly rather have millsap despite how great a defender smith is. he's also a good passer, but im not sold on smith at all.

Sure he does. Smith is quick enough to get out of the lane while D12 is working the block yet still crash the Oboards when a shot goes up. That's in stark contrast to Millsap.

This. Also, in the clutch, do you want DHo and JSmith at the free throw line? Would they be willing to take it to the hole down the stretch?

Reminds me of when Akeem lost to NC State in the NCAA finals. He wasn't a good FT shooter at that point and neither were his teammates. In those days if you missed the first FT, you didn't get a second.

I must confess, I knew no such stats would ever appear. But I was hoping to get some kind of response from the person who made the claim. Oh well.

I still say Millsap, all else equal, would help a Harden/Parsons/Dwight team more.

All of these stats and analytics are from him being on a team where he is trying to be the man and doesnt have a lot of help in ATL. His role on our team woudl be totally different than in ATL. He would not be handling the ball nearly as much and trying to make plays from the perimeter. He would get a lot of balls from Harden or Lin on drives to the basket or in transition where his job would be to finish the play. I know his contested 3 pt shots scare a lot of you, but just realize that he would have a different role here.

Smith has been asked to shoulder more of the scoring load in Atlanta compared to the expectations he would have in Houston. His Usage has increased the last two years while his true shooting efficiency has decreased -the two are no doubt related. However, the guy's defensive WS has been about 5 the last four years (comparison - Asik was 3.5 this season). In an offense where is option 4 or 5 instead of 2 or 3 as he has been in Atlanta I suspect Smith will be more efficient and quit hoisting jumpers from 16 feet.

They lost to NC State cause Hakeem and U of H got winded due to the altitude and Clyde got early fouls.

I believe they would be willing to take it to the hole. Harden would still be doing most of the 'taking it to the hole' though and dropping it off to them for dunks.

Is there any reason to believe he would want to play that kind of role? I have yet to hear one.

He has long been the (or one of the) top dog(s) on an NBA team, and guys who do that don't usually wish to transition into a hustle player focusing on defense and rebounding, only taking shots at the rim. Unless they're in their upper 30s, nearing retirement, and more mature. I don't think Smith fits into any of those three categories.

Why not Al Jefferon? I personally think he's a better fit at power forward than all of them.

you wouldn't do the s&t until your cap space is full, that way you're not costing yourself anything but money.

True those were factors but if they hit just a few more FTs they would've iced the game and certainly not made life so difficult. Hitting FTs was and is still the easiest way to ice games. Even the Spurs, with their team record-setting FT season (led by Duncan's career high 81%), if had they hit their FTs in Game 6, would be the champs now. That's the difference between finishing 1st and 2nd in a close game.

but he'll be OPEN. he's open even in atlanta, cuz teams want him to take that shot. the same even moreso will be the case here. atlanta fans groan IN ARENA every time he takes a long 2, even when he's wide open. that won't change. if anything, he'll get more open jumpshots to brick when he comes here.

honestly, i'd rather have asik as a backup 5. and roll with tjones/dmo instead of getting smoove. then hope they raise their value, and we can package them for a legitimate good fit at pf. or unless we can get a millsap, or r.anderson first initially.

This is entirely possible. Josh and Jack talk by Les might just be smoke and mirrors. You would think NBA owners would be smart enough to not be talking about their real plan if fans are around before major trade maneuvers.

I hope we get JSmoove, Howard, and Nate Robinson. Then Parsons and those guys could take turns jumping over each other for dunks!!!

Many think Al Jefferson is a terrible defender and passer and his stats are overstated. I heard from some Jazz fans that they want a Millsap/Favors combo and let Al go. The problem if that does happen is that Al thinks he is a number one guy so is he going to demand that kind of money. My guess is that Al winds up with Cleveland or the 76'ers (replacing Bynum). Maybe the Rockets can get Bynum for the league minimum that's the only way I would take him.
