Since the deal doesn't officially go to the league office until the 10th of July, Im wondering if Morey could pull out of the deal if for some reason Howard announced on the 9th that he was going to sign in LA or Dallas? If would be sort of a punk move if Morey did do this, but I am curious if it is possible. Its a nice haul considering the bargaining position that Houston did not have with this move being made so public because of it being so necessary to get done. So you have to pounce on an offer like that if you have it right there in front of you. Im wondering if Morey tried to do some horse trading at the last minute to make a deal for them to take Royce White in the deal as well? .... You'd have to think that they have "something" in place to get rid of him and his salary this week... you'd have to think that the "waive and stretch" scenario is the worst case scenario.
I'm one of the rare people to vote No on this, but only because I think that's less value than we gave up to get him. For what it is, at this point in time, it's fine. Bring on the real moves.
We traded a year and a half of PPat for half a year of Robinson, rights to 2 players, two draft picks, and enough cap space for 15% of Dwight's contract if he signs. While PPat was good, he wasn't great enough that his bird rights are that valuable.
I am sure he could cancel the deal, but I doubt he would risk alienating other teams. Think back about Carlos Boozer and his verbal commitment to the Cavs, then he backpeddled and accepted the Jazz offer.
We still have our 3m to use in trades right? I'd pitch Royce and 3m in return for as close to nothing as possible (hopefully a second rounder, at least a euro with no intention of playing NBA) to teams over the cap. He only earns mid 1st rookie wage (1.5m or so) for another year, which can be paid by the 3m. Try and sell that he just needs a fresh start
Basically I kind of lump all the guys no longer under contract as a wash in the trade as they really didn't make much of a difference last year. Aldrich and Douglas outplayed Garcia I regular season, but Garcia rocked in postseason. And to CH, Rockets can go get Patterson in free agency next season if they want him. The Rockets don't have any contracts only worth Patterson's one year left...outside of Whites.
Kostas Rising Star Apparently, Kostas won Rising Star award for Euroleague this year (Nikola Mirotic previously won last 2 years). He shoots a very high 3 pt %, so we will see. Do we get to see him and Furkan (or whatever our previous 2nd rounder's name is) this summer battle it out? Not sure I love giving up on Trob so quick, but I like TJones upside better anyways + we have DMo, so doesn't really hurt us and he was the most expensive. Other thing is that you sort of have to trust the coaches to have seen him play in game action and not have seen superstar potential (otherwise you would figure out a way to keep him).
I'm glad T Rob gets to go the Blazers! They lack any big men besides LMA and have no bench, so he should be getting plenty minutes. Excited to see how he finally develops in a good environment.
This may have been answered in the thread already, but I don't see why Morey doesn't just wait to see if Dwight commits and then pull the trigger on this trade?
