Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant plans to be part of the presentation on Tuesday to convince free-agent center Dwight Howard to re-sign with the franchise, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

The Lakers are expected to make the final case to Howard in Los Angeles, letting Houston, Dallas, Golden State and Atlanta go before them. Bryant has offered to be a part of the contingent that will include the Buss family, general manager Mitch Kupchak and possibly coach Mike D'Antoni.

Howard and Bryant have had a tepid relationship, but have stayed in touch in the offseason.

Howard, 27, can sign a five-year, $117 million-plus contract extension to stay with the Lakers. He has been leaning toward the Houston Rockets, league sources told Yahoo! Sports, but no one engaged in the discussions dares ruling out his staying with the Lakers.

Houston can sign Howard to a four-year, $88 million contract.

Among Howard's comfort living in Los Angeles, his outside and marketing interests beyond basketball and the franchise's history of rebuilding into championship contenders, the Lakers are still formidable in the process.

Bryant is rehabilitating a torn Achilles and working to try to return for the start of the 2013-14 season. The Lakers have begun an aggressive print and billboard campaign that promises to expand between now and Howard's decision next week.

Given their relationship, I'm not even sure that it's that much of a good thing.

Kobe can be part of it all day he knows what the lakers are about no guessing there he just needs to know what the rockets and Mavs are about.

Kobe now beats out Drexler as my candidate for "most likely to **** up his team's presentation to Dwight Howard."

I was thinking this very thing. I could actually see Kobe getting frustrated through the process. Why would Dwight want to listen to someone who wasn't all that pleasant to be around? That said, I think Kobe being Kobe may have done Dwight some good.

No kidding. I figure they believe Dwight to be mentally gone from a future in LA at this point and are leaking this to appease the fans.

Mavs fans seem to really believe they have a good shot at getting Dwight for some reason. It's LA or Houston

Between Dirk, Hakeem and Kobe's involvement in the recruiting process, Dwight is going to have to say no to two HOF players.

    I don't envy him.

    due diligence.

    just like the billboards.

for when the fans revolt on Lakers brass this (what will be another disappointing) upcoming season.

"see, we put billboards up asking him to stay and we even sent Kobe..."

It does make sense to have Kobe in on the Lakers pitch, though. With D'Antoni still around, Kobe and LA are going to have to try to convince Dwight the offense won't be "Kobe & The 4 Dwarves" anymore.

    Good luck with that one.

Such a big part of the pitch that he's not even invited to the meeting when he's like an hour away, lol.
