For the team's sake, I hope you are right. But meanwhile....

I get the feeling they are having a hard time trying to trade him cause other teams know that's what Rockets need to do to get D12 ...lol

I never did write anything from the Draft, which regretfully I didn't have the time to complete, but that was the biggest story from the TC that I took away. I fully expected to see Daryl down because they were "close" to a deal, or couldn't quite make something happen. Instead, he was in a great mood.

I think they're confident that they can make the move if needed. Like Gersson said in the podcast, fans should know that the Rockets are always "prepared." If Dwight wants in, I don't think it will be a problem to move him. As far as confident in a great return, I never really have been. My ceiling was about a mid first round pick, but given that the cap room earned alone is also an "asset" they are technically "receiving," I don't know if the return will be that high.

I wouldn't rule out a bigger move also. I also wouldn't be surprised if that Rocket brass preparation involves having assessed the market for Lin and perhaps even Asik, simply because if a free agent they like more comes at a price tag of $8-$10M with Howard, they may want to move on it.

I'm sure people with the Rockets told him that to try and create a market. Happens a lot with local beat writers. Negotiating through the media.

Interesting that Woj implies the T-Rob deal could come before Dwight pursuit (i.e. today). Didn't outright say it, but...

The most comparable situation in my mind was the Heat moving Michael Beasley to make the LeBron/Bosh stuff happen. Beasley had put up much better numbers than Robinson, but he's also a crazy loose cannon.

They got a pair of 2nd rounders out of it from a bad team (Minnesota). I think 2 projected high 2nd rounders is about equal to a late first.

The team I'm watching is Boston. They'll get a big trade exception from the Garnett/Pierce deal, and may be willing to part with one of the first rounders they just got (presumably the Nets 2014 first rounder won't be that good, or possibly the Clippers pick, or even their 2nd rounder next year since they're about to go in the tank). They need to start over, so it essentially becomes a cheap look at a lotto pick.

Could also be that the Rockets have something in place and will just wait until Dwight makes his decision.

Dwight will have made his decision sometime this week. (Hopefully on Wednesday) and that gives the Rockets more than enough time to make the move.

It's true, but the trades change Morey's plan in the draft day

Clutch, any chance that Morey was elated because he found a deal with T-Rob that would also move Royce White? That would kill two birds with one stone for the Rockets. Moving both would yield more cap space than just one, aside for ancillary legal concerns benefits and off-court antics.

I would say that given Morey's success with 2nders, two high second rounders are certainly better value than a late 1st.

It's sad we might have to dump a future first rounder to get rid of t rob. No one wants to help us establish a contender. I'd send 15 first rounder just not next years due to it being considered a good draft class. Hopefully we can just send some 2nd round picks along with him but if it hasn't happened by now it's gonna take more assets like jones or moti.

    That makes sense.

    The "Dwight Howard discount."

Why on earth would Portland do that? They just drafted CJ McCollum. They don't need another PG. I understand T-Rob, Omer, D-Mo plus picks for LMA. Just don't see them wanting Lin.

I hope you are joking. But if you aren't, you don't understand how market works.

No team cares about helping/destroying us. They care about themselves. There are 29 teams out there, and that's 29 potential trade-partners. If we offer TRob for a second round, first-come-first-serve, teams would jump on it in a milli-second. Why? Because that's a great price for TRob's potential.

To think we have to package TRob with picks to get rid of him is insane. He's NOT a bad contract. He's an asset.

Morey is doing the smart thing by not making an unnecessarily move before Dwight decides.

Maybe Hinkie would take T-Rob for a 2nd rounder?

I think 25 out 30 teams would take TRob for a 2nd rounder, and 5 out of 30 teams would take him for a late 1st rounder. Not everyone has a late 1st rounder. But...

Good news: we only need one team to trade with.

29 trade partners is stretching it.

Many of these teams don't have the cap room/trade exception to take Robinson without giving back salary. Some of those who do have cap room are using it to chase bigger fish (the Josh Smith/Iguodala/Millsap type guys) and won't know whether they have $3.5M in cap room to spare until well after the Dwight Howard situation is completed.

But then again, you just need to trade one Thomas Robinson, not 29 of them, so I think it should turn out OK. Morey sure looks like he has at least a palatable deal lined up as of draft night in case Dwight signs. HOU may or may not get good value out of Robinson, but I can't see him being a hugely difficult barrier to the Dwight signing.

In the past, Howard has said he would like to play with Iguodala. And Iguodala has said he would like to play with Howard.

I'm starting to see a potential plan here, along the lines of what Clutch was talking about above.

Been focusing on Howard wanting to play with Josh Smith all this time, but maybe Iggy could actually get done since Iggy is a FA?

It could be a big pay cut for Iggy, I think, but maybe if things work right it happens.
