Backpedal all you want friend. It's ok to be off, just next time don't try and attack another poster just cuz they have a late join date. I told you trob netting us a first rounder could be bogus, you used a terrible chase budinger analogy.

This makes no sense to me....
Going INTO the draft every team has a wishlist of hopeful possibilities to fill their needs... it isn't til AFTER the draft that teams find they didn't get who theyd hoped for and/or have an overstock at a certain position - due to drafting 'best available'....THAT'S when deals are struck.... ie. post draft, someone drafted a wing player (cause their desired pf was already gone) and now have an extra sg but need a pf....
Additionally, TRob may be worth holding as a project... everybody had given up on Jordan Hill.... ;)

I wonder if Morey wants a verbal commitment from Dwight come July 1st before he trades Robinson or Lin?

It probably has more to do with a better offer he can get if he waits until then since other teams interested will have more cap space to make an offer at that time.

But yes, having the meeting first with Dwight on Monday will probably be something they want to do before pulling the trigger on Thomas Robinson, much less a much more important player in Jeremy Lin.

It doesn't hurt to get the deal done between July 1 and July 10 after they've met Howard and secured his services.

Why give up on TRob before you absolutely need to

CAVS pick looked liked a panic pick. Same when I'm drafting in Fantasy Football but have little time to choose.

My thought as well. I feel like Morey already has a possible deal or two in place in regards to Robinson and is waiting until July 10.

But if someone had been willing to overpay for TRob on draft night, I'm sure Morey would have jumped on it. If not, he probably feels no need to rush.

Things are getting lost in the volume of posts.

Someone posted a tweet from one of the Rockets beat writers (was it feigan at the chron?) that said something like "whilst most people believed we would clear cap room before the draft, the Rockets would only do it when there is a person to fill that cap room with"

Basically, it makes more sense to clear the cap room when there is a firm commitment from Dwight. Why take the risk of losing assets for nothing. Also, teams over the cap now, could be under the cap after July 1st so they will have room and more flexibility to absorb assets in a trade.

Morey said (twice) he was 100% sure he can execute to free cap room in his post draft interview. This makes me think he already made a deal (conditional on Dwight signing). Could it be possible that Karasev (Cavs 19th) or Livio (Spurs 29th) were euro stash selected for us and a trade involving T-Rob, White, Lin, Asik or whoever will be executed after Dwight's commitment.

So it might not be until after the 10th that we find out the trades that were planned to free room for Dwight.

Interesting twist to Rockets' Howard pursuit: Teams know Houston needs to move Thomas Robinson's contract. How hard will they bargain?

True. But the thing is, it only takes ONE team. If there were only a couple of teams that could make a move you could stick it to Morey. But since there are MANY teams, Morey will play off that and thus will eventually get value.

I agree that teams will try to squeeze the Rockets because they have a very specific need (http://rockets.clutchfans.net/3928/thomas-robinson-trade-market/), but it shouldn't be to that level.

Long-term money? No way. T-Rob contract could expire in a year if the receiving team doesn't pick up his option. You may not get a great return because of the pure cap room you need, but he shouldn't be that difficult to move.

True, Ken Berger trying to stir things up a little bit ;) Clutch, are you as confident in them being able to get something good in return as much as Morey seemed to be?
