Now the pitchers. The hitters post was way too wordy, so I'll try to cut down on that. Comparing across leagues probably had something to do with it..... tellit, have you ever sought a wider audience? You put in so much work (though i'm sure you enjoy it) for an audience of really less than 20 guys who consistently read your stuff. I mean c'mon, you've gotten the attention of Mike Fast and other Astros FO guys.
3 for 4 with a hr and double .. Correa is unstoppable in June now he's slugging a bit more too. Hope to see him move up soon , not that I think he's moving too slowly but if he can repeat or better his performance in July then single A isn't enough o a challenge for him .
I think it's more than 20 people reading and enjoying his work, but only a few feel educated enough to jump into the fray. My $.02.
Correa gets three hits in Bandits' win Astros prospect plates two, is batting .462 in last 10 games http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130630&content_id=52245664&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb Quad Cities manager Omar Lopez slotted shortstop Carlos Correa in the two-hole to begin the season. He dropped him to the third spot earlier this week in a move that's already paying dividends. MLB.com's No. 28 overall prospect went 3-for-4 with a homer, double and two RBIs in his third game since the move, helping the River Bandits defeat Clinton, 6-1, on Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park. "We were just trying to get him to see a lot of fastballs. I wasn't expecting that Carlos would be hitting like this at this point, so just to protect him and let him see more pitches, more fastballs early in the count, we had him [in the two-hole]," Lopez said. "Now he'll see more breaking stuff [hitting third]." After batting .221 in April, Correa is wrapping up a month in which he's hitting .375 with 15 RBIs and 18 runs scored in 24 games. The No. 1 overall pick in last year's Draft has been even hotter over his last 10 games with a .462 average that's left him third in the Midwest League with a .324 mark. "[Correa's] showing us that he's more mature at the plate and has the ability to recognize pitches, be more selective and not swing at so many pitches," Lopez said. The first Puerto Rican drafted No. 1 overall hadn't displayed much power of late. Prior to hitting his fifth homer of the season to the opposite field in the sixth inning, Correa had not gone deep since June 6 and had one extra-base hit -- a triple -- in his previous 10 games. "I think the power will come. He's got power and I think the balls will end in the bleachers at some point in his career," Lopez said. "We teach to hit the ball gap to gap, drive it -- that's our approach for him and everyone. At some point next month, he's going to end up hitting some balls out of the park, but we don't want to put pressure on him to put the ball out of the park." Lopez believes that while Correa will be ready for a promotion before the end of the season, there's no reason to rush the 18-year-old. "He'll be ready, but I think with his age right now I don't see a reason to put him on the fast track," Lopez said. "Another level at the end of the year would be great, he won't have any problem making adjustments and succeeding." For now, Lopez will work with the Astros' No. 2 prospect on developing all facets of his game. "We want him to be consistent, stay gap to gap at the plate, make sure we work on his footwork and double plays, as well as his backhand," the manager said. "It's starting to be one of his weaknesses -- it's not bad -- and his fielding positioning." Third baseman Rio Ruiz, Houston's eighth-ranked prospect, hit a solo shot and scored twice for Quad Cities. Juan Minaya (1-1) earned the win with five shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out four. Vincent Velasquez fanned eight in a four-inning save, giving up a run on four hits.
Saturday Stories Let's play 2 in Troy! Here comes Correa. For a while, I've been asking whether you're still concerned about him. I'll take the non-response as a no. Recap Oklahoma City 6, Nashville 4 The Redhawks have taken 3 of the first 4 from the Sounds, thanks to the doubleheader sweep on Friday, and this victory. Had to hang on for it, though. Brad Peacock ran into trouble early, but clamped down to get the victory. In 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs (1 earned, both in the 1st) on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. Kevin Chapman threw a scoreless 8th and got the first out of the 9th, walking 1 and striking out 2. Jose Valdez got the 2nd out via a strikeout, but then he allowed a 2-run single. Wade LeBlanc rallied from a 3-0 count to get a full count, then got Hunter Morris to ground out to end the game. Jonathan Villar scored the first run of the game after leading it off with a double. Jimmy Paredes grounded into a fielder's choice, which turned into a double play after he got greedy and tried to take 2nd after Marwin was forced out at 3rd. Marwin finished 2-4 with a run scored. George Springer went 1-3 and stole his first base as a Redhawk (24 season) in the 4th. Che-Hsuan Lin then hit a 2-run single to give OKC a 3-2 lead. Paredes hit an RBI single in the 6th, then took 3rd on an error. He'd immediately come home on a Brandon Laird double. Laird also went 2-4 with a run scored. Villar brought home the final OKC run on a force out. Jose Martinez scored, while Robbie Grossman was out at 2nd. The Redhawks have won the series; the only question that remains is whether they'll take 3 of 5, or 4 of 5. Philip Humber will be starting the finale, and his opponent will be Johnnie Lowe. First pitch is at 6:35. Tulsa 3, Corpus Christi 1 The Hooks dropped the opener as Mike Foltynewicz's control sort of abandoned him. Also didn't help that the offense was held to 4 hits. Folty allowed 3 runs on 3 hits (solo homer), walked 4, and struck out 5. He threw 86 pitches (43 strikes) as he dropped a decision in AA for the first time. Ross Seaton allowed a hit and struck out 5 over 4 scoreless. The only Corpus run came in the 6th when Enrique Hernandez scored on a double play. The middle game of this series pits David Martinez against Tyler Matzek. First pitch is at 6:05. Lancaster 4, Rancho Cucamonga 2 Travis Ballew got even as he slammed the door on the Quakes. Before that, though, Luis Cruz had a fine start, as he gave up 1 run (on a groundout from Darnell Sweeney) on 1 hit (a double from Scott Schebler, who hit the grand slam off Ballew in the 9th on Friday night) in the 1st. After that, he allowed one baserunner for the next 4 innings, on a 2-out walk in the 3rd. 5 of his last 7 outs were strikeouts. So, in 5 innings, Luis Cruz allowed a run on a hit, walked 1, and struck out 7. All but one of those Ks were looked at, including those last 5. Blair Walters pitched the 6th and allowed a run on 3 hits. Jonas Dufek tossed 2 scoreless, allowing a hit and striking out 1. Ballew got O'Koyea Dickson to ground out for the first out, and then he allowed a very, very long single to Chris Jacobs. A Devin Shines flyout was the 2nd out, and it should've been over as Bladimir Franco hit a grounder to Nolan Fontana. It wasn't, because Fontana flubbed it, and everyone was safe as a result. An error proved to be the beginning of the end for Ballew on Friday, but he buckled down and punched out Casio Grider to end the game, and he got his 12th save of the year in the process. Trailing 1-0 for a good part of the game, the Jethawks finally broke through the Quakes pitchers for 2 in the 6th, coming off a Tyler Heineman groundout and a sac fly from Brandon Meredith. They didn't have a hit in the inning, as Andrew Aplin walked to lead it off, and then was able to advance to 3rd as RC catcher John Cannon (a former Cougar) threw the ball away trying to pick him off. 2 more walks to Telvin Nash and M.P. Cokinos loaded 'em up. Rancho tied it up in the bottom of the inning, as Sweeney blooped a single over Delino DeShields' head to bring in Schebler again. He hit a 1-out double in the inning. Chris Epps made sure the tie was short-lived, as he greeted the entering Rancho pitcher, Raydel Sanchez, with a solo homer (9) to lead off the 7th. DeShields, who finished 2-4 with a run scored and a steal (19), laid down a bunt single, advanced to 2nd as Sanchez threw the ball away trying to pick him off, advanced to 3rd on a Nolan Fontana single, and came home on a sac fly from Aplin. Aplin finished 2-3 and had a double in the 1st. The Jethawks were threatening for more as they had the bases loaded in the 9th, but Telvin Nash struck out to snuff that out. The Jethawks will look for the split, as Aaron West and Tom Shirley will take on a rehabbing Ted Lilly. Also scheduled to appear for Rancho is Carl Crawford. First pitch is at 2:05 Pacific. Quad Cities 6, Clinton 1 The River Bandits buried the LumberKings in the series opener behind the bat of Carlos Correa, who went 3-4 with a solo homer (5) in the 6th and an RBI double in the 7th. Rio Ruiz put QC on the board first with a solo homer (4) in the 2nd. Ruiz was also involved in scoring plays that came off Clinton errors. He and Roberto Peña scored in the 6th when Ketel Marte threw it away from short and Taylor Ard threw it away again, this time from 1B. He reached on a blunder in center from Janelfry Zorrilla in the 7th that allowed Correa to score and him to take 3rd. Juan Minaya threw 5 shutout innings and allowed 4 hits and struck out 4. Vince Velasquez tagged in to finish off Clinton, allowing a sympathy run in the 8th on 4 hits, walking 1, and striking out 8. Game 2 of this 5-game set features the tandem of old men. Mike Hauschild and Jordan Jankowski will take on Ray Lewis.... err, I mean, Victor Sanchez. First pitch is at 5:00. Game 1: Connecticut 5, Tri-City 1 A Dan Gulbransen single in the 1st was all the ValleyCats could muster up. Gulbransen finished 2-4. Ryan Dineen was 2-2. Tanner Bushue fared well, although he had to take the loss. He went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs (both on a 2-run homer) on 3 hits and struck out 4. Chia-Jen Lo was torched for the first time. He pitched the 7th and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits (2-run homer), walked 1, and fanned 1. What would happen in the nightcap? Game 2: Tri-City 4, Connecticut 0 It was a reunion of Vanderbilt teammates in game 2, as Conrad Gregor and Tony Kemp faced off against their ace, Kevin Ziomek. Kemp didn't start, though. Gregor lined out in the 1st, which turned out to be the only time he faced his buddy. Ziomek tossed 2 1-2-3 innings to start before getting lifted for Julio Felix in the 3rd. TC broke through with 3 in the 4th off of Felix. Again, Gulbransen delivered an RBI single. Advancing to 3rd on the play was Gregor, who had walked in front of him. Gregor would score on a wild pitch from Felix, and then Gulbransen would score on an error that allowed Mike Martinez to reach. They got 1 more in the 6th on a solo homer from Luis Alvarez (1). Adam Nelubowich, the Astros' 18th-round pick this year, made his debut in this game. He was the starter at 3B and went 0-2 with a walk out of the 8th spot. Adrian Houser tossed 4 scoreless, allowing 4 hits and striking out 2. Charles Basford, Richard Rodriguez, and Pat Christensen each worked an inning to finish it out. Basford and Rodriguez allowed a hit in the 5th and the 6th, respectively. Christensen struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 7th. Michael Feliz will take the hill for the series finale. Not sure about this, but I think he'll be working with Andrew Thurman from here on out. They'll be taking on Preston Jamison. First pitch is at 5:00 Eastern. Greeneville 5, Burlington 4 Don't look now, but Greeneville's on a 4-game winning streak after stumbling out of the gate. Jordan Mills was a little shaky towards the end of his outing, but his bullpen picked him up, and the Appy Astros took the series opener. Everyone had a hit except for Tanner Mathis, who was 0-4 with an RBI groundout in the 2nd, a walk, and a strikeout. That was only the 2nd time he's fanned this season. Marc Wik started it off with an RBI single in the 1st to put Greeneville on the board first. After Burlington tied it in the bottom of the inning, Wallace Gonzalez and Ariel Ovando led off the 2nd with singles. Alfredo Gonzalez was plunked to load the bases. Wally G put Greeneville back in front by scoring on a wild pitch. Ovando would score on the Mathis groundout, and Juan Santana brought Alfredo home with a single. They tacked on 1 more in the 3rd when Darwin Rivera led off the inning with a double. Bobby Borchering reached on an error that allowed Rivera to move to 3rd, but Borchering was the first casualty of the inning, as he was caught stealing 2nd. Rivera would eventually score on a single from Wallace. Santana, Rivera, Borchering, and Wallace had 2 hits apiece. Jack Mayfield had a steal (2). Jordan Mills went 4 2/3 and allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Sebastian Kessay threw 2 1/3 scoreless, walking 2 and fanning 2. Krishawn Holley walked 1, but struck out 2 in a scoreless 8th. J.D. Osborne walked 1 in the 9th, but he was able to shut the door for his 3rd save of the season. In the middle game of this series, Enderson Franco will take on Luis Santos. First pitch is at 6:00 Eastern. GCL Pirates 6, GCL Astros 2 4 in the 6th off Samil De Los Santos got the Buccos the win in Bradenton. The 2 Astros runs in the 4th came off a triple hit by Luis Reynoso. He finished 2-4. Jose Montero went 3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. De Los Santos was tagged for 4 runs on 4 hits in his 3 innings. They all occurred in the 6th. Prior to that, he retired the Pirates in order in the 4th and the 5th. Raul Rivera allowed a hit and struck out 1 in a scoreless 7th, and Erick Gonzalez struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 8th. On Monday, they'll play the Phillies in Kissimmee. DSL Astros 7, DSL Indians 5 The Academy scraped across a critical run in the 8th to create the final score. After the Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the 1st, Hector Roa answered by hitting an RBI double. He'd advance to 3rd on a passed ball and score on an error as they attempted to pick off Brian Peña. Victor Tavarez hit an RBI single that brought Peña home. Roa, who finished a homer shy of the cycle, then hit an RBI triple in the 3rd. Kristian Trompiz (2) and Jarico Reynoso (8) executed a double steal in the 4th. Trompiz took 3rd and Reynoso 2nd. They both scored on an error that allowed Luis Payano to reach. After the Indians got 2 in the 7th to pull within 6-5, Payano hit an RBI single in the 8th to give the Academy a little more separation. Geronimo Franzua went 1 2/3 and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits and walked 2. Javier Saucedo pitched 4 2/3 and gave up 2 (1 earned) on 2 hits and fanned 4. Yonquelys Martinez got the final 2 outs of the 7th. Carlos Vasquez walked 1 and struck out 2 in the 8th, and Angel Heredia got the save, striking out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th. The Academy will have a rest day, and then they'll head over to the Indians' complex on Monday to play them there.
He posted in here recently, which was cool. There are enough Astros blogs, IMO, and there is a cost to maintaining a good one. I think posting here is also good for growing the Astros community on the best sports forum.
Don't forget, last day to vote for Carlos Correa: http://houston.astros.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2013/fut/ballot.jsp Vote as many times as you can. No limit.
Bad choice of words, tellit just does such a good job no need to add. I'm not a big poster mainly read and am here daily to check out any recaps that I haven't already seen, keep up good work tellitlikeitis
When the Astros start winning and the bandwagon grows there will be more fans here reading his stuff. We will all be the cool kids who read his stuff before it was popular.
