Really? You would trade melo, harden, paul, rose, and westbrook straight up for the #1 pick to draft Wiggins? Proven superstars vs potential superstar? i voted parker, duncan, and forgot to vote kobe as well since duncan/kobe only have a few years left and parker because he's 31 i believe.
I've seen enough of Wiggins and tasted the Kool-Aid. IMO, he has a decent chance to be a generational player, not just a superstar. Besides LeBron and KD, I don't believe any current player in the NBA has that chance except Kyrie Irving and he's been injury prone. This thread needs to be kept alive so we can continue this discussion in Nov & Dec. Some of the skeptics here will change their minds. I intend to follow Wiggins at KU much like KD at UT. It will be special and memorable.
Only Kobe, Duncan, Parker because of age. Remember this is a HS kid, there have been several HS prospects that have been labelled next HOFer and then disappointed.
We don't know how wiggins will turn out, I mean a year ago everyone was saying Shabazz Muhammed would be the ****, and if you go a couple of years back then Austin Rivers was in that same spot as well. If you're a team who has the rights to Wiggins then you'll only trade him for a superstar in his prime, somebody like Kobe or TD who will retire in 2 years won't cut it. OTH, if you're the GM of say the Rox will you really trade Harden for Wiggins? It'll be really tough sell, IMHO the fans and the owner would riot, and even if Wiggins turns out better than Harden you'll need to rebuild again because at age 19 he would have a lot of catching up to do with your current team.
He's young, but yet overrated. Let's see how he handles for Kansas coming season and then say if he's one of the best and is in the league of LeBron/Durant/etc
The case could also made made for Harrison Barnes. He was voted as a pre-season All American before he ever played a college game. He was the next Kobe Bryant. A few years before that, OJ Mayo was seen as the next great. Although he fizzled later on in his high school career. Personally I think Wiggins will be better than Barnes, Shabazz and Mayo, but you really don't know. If you like gamble, I would trade anyone other than LBJ, KD, Kyrie Irving and maaaaybe Harden/Westbrook/Paul for him. It would be a franchise-changing gamble though.
It'd be hard to trade a top 10 player for unproven talent. If your start was over 30 I guess you'd have to look at the gamble.
As far as I know none of those guys were on the Lebron level as a prospect. Greg Oden was considered a monster prospect. Wiggins is the only guy comparable.
I wouldn't trade any top 15-20 player for this guy, unless the player was past his prime (early 30s or older). I don't care how hyped Wiggins is...he's still an unknown. I'd rather give up future picks and a fringe All-Star for him...even though that may not be enough. Other recent draftees have been hyped up a lot by the media, scouts, etc while they were still juniors and seniors in high school. Only to have their stock drop noticeably after a year of college (i.e. tougher competition).
I like him but whenever I see him I think of Beasley for some reason and that's a horrible nba comparison now. A lot of guys have come in and sucked.
Those guys named bad examples. Better ones would be: Eddy Curry Sebastian Telfair Kwame Brown Kenny Anderson Tamir Goodman All hyped to death and nothing happened. You also had guys like Oden, Miles, Bender who were derailed by injuries, point with them is you have to wait and see how their bodies adapt to the NBA lifestyle.
Everyone except Durant. Lebron may not be loyal so i would trade him for Wiggins. I'd rather have a superstar i can keep for their career.
Wiggins will be a top 3 player in the NBA. He is a sure thing. The only thing that could hold him back is injuries.
