I don't think so. Dwight's wasted 3 seasons now -- a lame duck season in Orlando talking about leaving, then another lame duck season because he didn't want his Bird Rights traded to the wrong team, and then a terrible year with LA. The Lakers are going to come in with a pitch of "Just stick it out one more bad year and then you'll be the alpha dog and I'm sure we can get some good free agents and we'll be great; you'll see!" I'm sure Howard is sick of watching his best years coming to naught for unguaranteed promises of deferred gratification -- especially when there's this plum on a low branch ripe for the picking just by signing with a promising young team that doesn't have to give up anything to add him.

As for Kobe, I think he's only talking about recruiting Howard to protect his own reputation and legacy. He doesn't respect Howard. He knows the story is going to be that he ran Howard out of town. Letting everyone know he's recruiting Howard gives him some plausuble deniability. Then the Kobe fans have something to latch on to when they come to defend his honor.

Though it does have to be hard for Kobe, going into the last season of his contract with his team in shambles, but wanting to retire a Laker. I'm sure he'd rather his last season ended on a high note, but his prospects after Howard don't look good. I've mentioned this before; I think the best option for everyone is if Kobe was amnestied and the Mavericks picked him up. Him and Nowitzki get a chance to make some noise together before retirement.

Kobe's competitiveness will ruin the Lakers chance to keep Howard. He probably thinks he's better than him NOW, with the injury.

I'm more than sure Dwight has zoned him out and blocked his number.

I don't know if Howard is staying or leaving LA, but what exactly does Kobe
have to sell? Howard has been there for a whole season, he knows the players
the coach, the system and the city! All Dwight has to do is listen to this beautiful
song and he'll know what to do
    ......

Howard got talked too like sh**, cuz he actually DESERVED some of it.

Now later Dwight is harboring grudges over that, what he brought onto himself.

Which is immature. But its whatever, cuz it works in the Rockets favor. Its a "perfect storm" of petulant events in a star leaving LA.

(I still think Houston is "leverage" until its not leverage. Or I'll choose to believe that. This is Dwight Howard here. You actually can depend on him to show up to work everyday. But not of dependable temperament)

In Part II of our three part series with Kobe Bryant, he discusses the impending free agency of Dwight Howard, including why it's critical that Howard arrives at his decision on his own.

Below is a transcription of some of Bryant's key points:

Q: On L.A.'s roster for next season:
Bryant: I think it really depends on what Dwight decides to do.

Q: On why he wants Howard to stay with the Lakers:
Bryant: I think his talent level, his defensive prowess. We saw what he could do at the end of the year when we all started clicking … I think that makes him extremely, extremely valuable.

Q: On the importance of Howard arriving at his own decision on where to play:
Bryant: It has to be his decision. The last thing you want to do is convince a person that they want to be here. If you have to convince them when challenges or adversity comes up next season, it's very easy to say, 'Well they had to convince me to be here anyway, I really didn't want to be here, I'd rather be (somewhere else) but they sold me on it.' You want it to be his decision. When it's something that's rooted inside of him, it's something he champions. I just want to be there to assist his decision.

Q: On what the Lakers mean to him:
Bryant: L.A. is home for me. It's the longest place I've ever stayed as a kid moving around. Being in one place for 17 years was completely foreign for me. But this is home. With the organization going forward you're going to expect the same old, same old. Figuring it out, figuring it out now. I hear the critics (of) the roster, everything is up in the air … it may seem that way now but the dust will settle. We'll have a team out there on the floor that's going to be a contender.

Some guy on sportscenter...from espnla i think, said Lakers will have celebrities living LA to convince Howard to stay and tell him how much he means to them. Now that's desperate.

Will be sad if true. Those celebs don't give a **** about Dwight. They'll be making jokes about how much the Lakers will suck next year (because they will suck next year, with or without Dwight) all the same.

Smart, sure I guess. But majority of the celebs are fake basketball fans. I don't think the celebs will have a huge impact on Howard's decision
