Didn't he learn anything from Lebron? This seems like a bad idea to me, to publicity announce beforehand when you're going to make the decision just to generate buzz.

c'mon, when did dh become a non-drama queen? not only off court, but also on the court, he has been gradually turning into a whinning machine. he whined more than scoring if each whinning counts 2 pts. w/o svg, he has been focusing on offense more than defense. but everyone knows his offense is very limited and easy to be defended if he has only one way to score. i rather have asik.

Having said that, it must mean that whatever decision he has made is dependent on a trade that can't go down until July 10th, a la the Garnett deal.

    Interesting.

Well he can't technically sign until July 10th so I'm sure that has something to do with it. We will know a few days before then

look at it this way, diva man's worst year was still an eternity better than asik's:eek:. Now that diva man has rested from surgery, he should return to old form. Getting dwight alone will put us as one of the top teams. We can have both howard and asik and eat cake from them too.

We really want shooters (pause) for the "situation we are about to be in".

It is in the video that Clutch posted right after the draft. Arrogant Morey is arrogant.

He would get so much hate for not taking anything seriously.

Guys, this is all verbage. Where this came from was Dave McMenamin's midday tweet yesterday:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Don't expect an extended free agency process with Dwight. A source close to DH tells me that he will sign the first day available - July 10</p>&mdash; Dave McMenamin (@mcten) <a href="https://twitter.com/mcten/statuses/350297076371963904">June 27, 2013</a></blockquote>
    <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

The point is that he'll be ready to sign on July 10, the first possible day. In theory, he could take until then to announce, but I think it's much more likely that he'll decide by July 3 or July 4, much like Deron last year (decided late afternoon on the 3rd) and most other marquee free agents in years past. The longest I can remember is LeBron, who stretched it out until July 8, but there were significantly more teams involved in that chase.

If you look at the last 5 years or so of top FA's and the time it takes for them to make a decision, 8 is about the average day.

does anyone pay attention on what lakers cap situation is. the next season is toughest for lakers but every big contract comes off after next season. if lakers really want to keep kobe, they might be able to convince kobe to restruct his contract to make it more friendly for the next season so lakers' financial is not bad as ppl are thinking now. for example, kobe has one year left worth 30 mils. they can make it longer but much less each year.

How does saying "I will be ready to sign at the earliest moment possible" imply he's being a drama queen? It would be different if he said "I'll be ready to sign like, totally some time in August"

All that tireless work Morey put in for this draft, he was way too happy & energetic for Dwight to not be headed to Houston.

Renegotiating a contract is not an option for a team over the cap.

Yes, the Lakers cap situation IS that bad, and there's no way around it. Unless they get a bonafide star -- and Griffin might not even qualify, but he's the closest thing -- they'd much rather Dwight walk than do a trade.

    Wow.

It appears Howard really has some amends to make to shed the diva image.

All the guy does is state that he will finalize this on July 10 — the first day he is eligible to sign — and he gets roasted for "dragging it out" and creating a media circus like LBJ did with The Decision.

I was not a fan of how he handled things in the past, but damn — what are we looking for here? He's been pretty low-key so far. If he were any other free agent none of this would warrant the slightest attention.

I know why he's waiting til July10th. He wants to give the Lakers more to sway him. Looks like those billboards got him thinking.
Or, maybe he wants to give Cuban enough time to pull a trick or two.
No reason at all why the Rockets would want him to wait.

i am not sure what you mean. i remember dirk said he is willing to get his contract redone to help mavs. if no downward, how does it help mavs? i totally have no idea on roles regarding the contract restruction. my feeling is as long as the total is not changed everything is ok.

No. He said he'd take a paycut next summer on his next contract, after his current deal expires. There is nothing he can do to change his current contract.
