Lakers would rather let him walk and preserve their cap for 2014 class. Clips do not want to part with Griffin, either, which is the only way it happens.

Those rumors were put out by CP3's camp. Nothing came out of Howard's camp to confirm it. He might stay in LA, but he will not be going to LAC.

July 10th is the first day that a contract can be actually signed. Prior to that day there can be no actual legal agreement between a player and a team.

By saying July 10th, he's saying that he will have made up his mind and will make his move/non-move on the first day of actual free agency.

This is actually a sign that he's not trying to drag it out. He could in fact not make any decisions for weeks on end.

And the relevant teams will 100% know by the time July 10th rolls around.

Just watch TRob. As soon as it's announced the trade is done. Then Howard is coming. No trade no Howard.

Agreed, I love this comment by Morey. He said it quietly but with confidence. I don't think you say that unless you know you are getting DH and surrounding him with shooters as starters and off the bench if needed.

That and his confidence in shedding a salary to afford Dwight's contract has me thinking Morey has got this and I appreciate him arrogance since it will let me sleep better at night the next few weeks.

I am assuming July 1st or July 10th is when Morey will make his cap clearing move. The Boston trade will go down on July 10th to account for Pierce's 2013-2014 salary and Nets are signing and trading Keith Bogans to make it work on July 10th. I can see a similar agreed upon trade (on a much smaller scale) coming to fruition soon.

Maybe we use our full $3+ mil cash allotment to make things happen on July 1st? I noticed a couple of teams in the mid-20's basically just sold their pick for cash so cash transactions are still king to many franchises especially when talking about marginal talent.

He should do a spoof of the decision. Not take himself too seriously. That would make him a "good guy" again.

gasol's contract has one more year. only kobe's salary is the big problem for lakers. on the otherside, clippers has no problem. they can trade jordan and butler, plus some picks. lakers get a center and butler's salary will come off. it helps lakers to prepare class 14 as you said with gasol and bulter's contract both off after the next season. ok let me make it clear. if heats can manager to get 3 top money suckers together, why can't clippers do?

Fair enough... I guess I can give him a LITTLE credit for that...

But is there something stopping him on say July 3rd from publicly declaring 'I plan to sign with X, I'm happy with their offer and plans for the future.'

The Heat actually had the capspace to offer 2 max contracts. The Clippers don`t have any capspace as far as I know.

I don`t think the Lakers would do that deal, because it would drasatically help anoter team, while not helping themselves that much. With pure capspace they can make a run at LeBron, Love or another top tier free agent. With DeAndre Jordan they can`t as far as I know. And as nice a player Jordan is, his contract is pretty expensive for a guy without an offensive game.

If Dwight leaves, the Lakers will go all in to suck next season (high draft pick, Wiggins?) and then go all in at the next free agency. They don`t want to be mediocre and then miss their chance at a top free agent.

Because the Lakers aren't interested in making the Clippers contenders for the next few years while they try to rebuild. Also, Lakers would almost certainly only even consider it if Griffin came over, and the Clippers aren't interested in doing that. Both teams get a say in it, and by all accounts neither team is interested in such a deal. Each team has plans to go another direction.

This scenario doesn't worry me at all. There are just way too many reasons it's not happening.

Because the Lakers are hurting financially. Bad.

The Lakers aren't going to do a trade just to do a trade. If Dwight re-signs, or they take back his salary equivalent, they're going to amnesty Gasol. That's how bad it is. In addition to having zero interest in clogging their 2014 cap space with DeAndre f'n Jordan, they're not interested in staying above the luxury tax for an utterly terrible team. Unless the Lakers get back something like Griffin, the next-best scenario to Dwight re-signing is to let him walk.
