    Rebounds: Dwight = Asik
    Blocks: Dwight > Asik
Low Post Moves: Dwight ~= Asik
Low Post Defense: Dwight = Asik
Alley Oop plays: Dwight > Asik
Jumpshot: Dwight < Asik (Asik has shown he can hit mid-range jumpers)

    Defense against stretch bigs: Dwight<Asik
Pick and Roll Defense: Dwight = Asik
    Free throws: Dwight < Asik

So it's basically like this: Dwight @ $20.4 million per = Asik @ $8.3 million per
Only difference is Dwight is a better shot blocker and Alley-oop dunker.

The only difference is that Howard is a better shot blocker and alley-oop dunker? Ok, lets's take a look:

    pts/game: Howard 17.2 Asik 10.1
    reb/game : Howard 12.5 Asik 11.6
    blk/game : Howard 2.47 Asik 1.06
    fg%: Howard 57.9% Asik 54.2
    stl/game: Howard 1.1 Asik 0.60
    Efficiency: Howard 22.31 Asik 17.6
    True Shooting %: Howard 57.4 Asik 55.8
Win Share: Howard 12.31 Asik 10.57
    PER : Howard 19.16 Asik 14.84
Turn Over Rate: Howard 15.25 Asik 17.75
% of their shots blocked: Howard 8.1 Asik 14.6
    DEF (Steals + Blocks + Charges) : Howard 3.64 Asik 1.80

Shots at the Rim: Howard 70.4% 357/507 Asik 60.5 289/476
    Shots 3-9 feet: Howard 44.9 93/207 Asik 27.1 26/96
    Shots 10-15 feet: Howard 38.5 5/13 Asik 54.5 6/11
    Shots 16-23 feet: Howard 30% 9/30 Asik 35.0 6/17
    3pt%: Howard 1/6 16.5 Asik 0.0% 0/0

You also forgot to include that Howard scores almost 70% more points while shooting an even higher percentage.

Bottom line, Howard is a far superior offensive player. He commands a double team and is an 18 pt/game scorer. Howard can score every single basket on a dunk, it really doesn't matter. You don't get extra style points on shots. Howard is also far superior to Asik at catching the ball and finishing at the rim, which are traits that would greatly benefit a player that has James Harden as a teammate.

Defensively, Howard is the best defender in the league. He can cover much more ground and make up for other players defensive liabilities.

Even coming off an injury last season Howard still let the league in rebounding.

No knock on Asik, he's a very good center but he's no where near the level of Howard.

i just hope if we get him we don't have DOFs that followed him from orlando to LA and now to houston. It's bad enough with the LOFs here.

You just schooled him. And all of this was before even considering the fact that our cap space is almost like an "Expiring asset" that NONE of the anti-DH posters have yet given a VIABLE, better alternative for its use...and that Dwight isn't replacing Asik so the comparisons are effing weird. It'd be like if we were signing Iggy and we started comparing him (and his salary) w/ Harden's. lulwut weird.

I'm not going to lie. I've grown to dislike the "x"OH's much more. A lot more negative; use just as much sensationalism and lack of logic.

    1. If you're Kevin McHale, the second to last thing you ever want to see during a game is your center leaving the paint to take 17 footers. It's a moot point to say that Asik is a better jump shooter than Howard because, quite honestly, all you need from your center in McHale's offense is to know how to run a PnR (which Howard does) and to finish hard at the rim (which Howard does a lot better than Asik)

    2. Unless the discrepancy is more than 10% points, this is a moot point as well. Sure Asik went on an unbelievable run of FTs during that one playoff game but Howard's ability to draw double teams during the game could have change the outcome thereby negating the necessity for Scotty Brooks to go to that cheap tactic.

I seriously don't understand why this thread questioning if we should really want Dwight Howard got over 100 replies when dozens of other previous threads questioning if we should really want Dwight Howard did not get anything close to that.

asik is awesome. but howard is on another planet compared to asik. he's a better defender, and would add a completely different arsenal to our offense with his pick and roll ability. when howard is healthy, like he was post all-star break, he'd be the best or most impactful player on this rockets team.

Agree with everything. I would add endurance. Dwight is a better athlete and can play more minutes. Endurance is a skill. I think Asik is every bit as skilled a rebounder as Dwight is for 30 minutes, but just couldn't play more than he did last season.

I agree, and the "Asik is better on midrange jumpers" is such a BS statement! It is at best, misleading and at worst, just plain wrong.

From 3-9 ft, Howard shoots 45% on almost 3 attempts a game. Asik is 27% on a little over 1 attempt a game. From 16-23 ft, they're both pretty similar, w/ Asik shooting 35% and Dwight 30%, but this means little since Asik only attempts 0.2 of these a game, and Dwight 0.4. Then finally, the only mid-range jumper that Asik is obviously better at is from 10-15 ft, where Dwight is 38.5% and Asik is a whopping 54.5%!! WOW! Too bad that is on 0.1 attempt a game...which is rounded up. So he takes fewer than 8 of these shots ALL season? Yeah, that % is reliable...

I don't think it will be AS bad with dwight. He's a proven player, so unless he comes and falls flat on his face i cant see the DOH vs DOFs really getting out of hand like LOFs Vs LOHs.

but i'm sure there will be plenty DOHs since a good amount of people dont want to see him here.

Lin hasn't proven himself yet so naturally there will be much more talk about the hype vs skill and other discussions.

The only way we start smelling a championship is with Dwight, adding an LMA via trading Asik and J Lin would be awesome. However, I would be concerned with paying so much to a 4 and 5 when teams are playing that small ball with a 3 playing stretch 4. However, LMA would murder that trend because he could score all day and the team would have to shoot lights out to take advantage of LMA's advantage every night...

I do NOT want Dwight Howard

I do NOT want Dwight Howard.

    I'm sorry. I just don't.

I don't like HIM. I don't like the way he acts. I think it's toxic to the environment around him. I think it will hold back any franchise that has him from winning a championship. He's just a big, selfish, self-absorbed kid. And he's expensive as hell, the Rockets are probably going to have to give up Asik somewhere in the pursuit to get him. I think it's a huge mistake.

I'm not sure there is an answer in free agency this year for the Rockets. Chris Paul isn't leaving LA. Al Jefferson and Josh Smith aren't the answer. I think the Rockets are actually best served letting these young guys like Robinson, D-Mo, Jones, Beverley, and Parsons develop with Lin, Harden and Asik. Let those guys get out on the court and possibly blossom and then, when their value is more than just hopeful potential, trade them for someone.

That's just me. I'm not trying to get flamed here, but I just don't like the whole Dwight Howard thing. I think it's destined to fail. He's not mentally strong enough to help lead a team to a championship. If the Rockets could somehow find a way to get LaMarcus Aldridge to play next to Asik and with Parsons and Harden, that's the ticket, IMO. I'm not sold on Lin being a great fit yet but I'm also not giving up on him.

I'm glad you started a thread. There wasn't room in the other Dwight Howard threads for the opinion of such an advanced thinker.
