Sure if this was 2001, but it's 2013 and KG is done.

Might be in the minority here but Garnett would make us so much better defensively he just covers so much space he and Howard would make us a top defensive team. Garnett is versitle enough to spread the floor, move laterally and we all have seen him harass James in the paint. I love this move..

10 years from today Asik still won't be better than Garnett.

This has been discussed in like 5 other threads already.

    My answer is the same.

    "Too old."

I'd actually make this trade OP if Dwight was on board for Garnett. They'd be a good fit together and Garnett could also play C as the backup.

I love Asik and don't want to dump him just to dump him, but we only have two years of Asik on this team so the age of Garnett doesn't really matter to me.

Now it's getting really embarrassing, if we had any chance of Asik wanting to browse this board, this last month has effectively screwed up of that ever happening. Can somebody pull out the Asik appreciation thread and sticky it so at least it seems like us 'fans' appreciate the guy??

If Boston ends up blowing it up, I hope we target rondo.

    Previously discussed.

Asik for Garnett straight up is not enough. Asik for Garnett + Pierce (after Celtics buyout, signs with us for minimum) is very reasonable if we first sign Dwight. This is risky and short-term, but it is the typical kind of trade that contenders make.

asik for KG and lottery protected 1st round pick in 2015 enough? 2014 is going to be a strong draft and the Cs will have 2 first round picks in 2015

What a new are interesting suggestion!

I have no objection to picking up Garnett. But, I think Asik is worth a lot more. I could trade Lin for him. Or one of Jones or Motie (plus some fancy acrobatics to make it work under the cap rules). Hopefully throwing in White too.

I have no objection to trading Asik either. But, I think he can pull something better (ie, younger) than Garnett.

I think our ace-in-the-hole is Josh Smith. Atlanta (from reports at the trade deadline last season) had interest in Asik for Smith trade then. I see no reason they wouldn't have the same interest now when they could lose him for nothing.

If we say to Dwight, "hey sign here and our next move is J. Smith S&T for Asik and DMo.". I think DH would look at that pretty favorable. To play with both Harden, Parsons, AND Smith....hard to walk away from that.

I think dealing him for Smith is a logical move, and a better return than Garnett in the long-run.

Garnett would probably make Howard cry with all the demands to play hard and not be soft, so I doubt they would do that trade if they land Howard.

Although he would be a good 4, you are losing your best defensive player to get a guy a year or two away from retirement, so with Howard it is risky and without Howard still risky. Only way Garnett works for the Rockets is if we still have Asik.
