This is how I think it will play out. Howard will leak out information that he intends to sign with Houston. Lakers panic, give in to Dwight's demand. They fire Pringles, sign Phil Jackson (or any coach of Dwight's liking). Give Phil Jackson more control over team (Front office etc.).

Fast forward to Mid July, Lakers hold a big press conference to announce the signing of Dwight Howard. Dwight will claim he chose LA because he "just wants to have fun".

I want to see it. If Phil doesn't coach I don't think Dwight stays.

this is a strong possibility with a lot of recent history to back it up

    1. Player's agent/crew leak info that said player is unhappy with "style of play"

    2. Coach is fired

    3. Player denies any involvement.

    4. new coach is hired and player signs with team

i can't believe that the lakers organization will do this after saying that D'Antoni is staying.. what a disaster.. only hire that will save this is Phil for sure.

Or our other only hope is that he feels strongly about not playing with Kobe and being in his shadow. Kobe says he has 3 or 4 more years left which if Dwight truly is annoyed with Kobe the MDA comments may be window dressing as well.

Broussard backtracked a little on Mike & Mike when they asked him if Dwight would consider LA if they fire MDA. He was saying that is not his intention to get another coach fired. He would be perceived as a coach killer again.

I think this is Dwight's camp letting HOU and DAL know that they better clear the cap space while they can tonight because he is choosing either one of these two. Hopefully they are not trying to get another coach canned.

Yup. This is what I was most afraid of. Just really surprising they didn't start doing this earlier. Too bad for shaw he took his job in Denver. He could have been coaching the lakers. This is where the rubber meets the road for the power play that is Jim/Jeanie/Phil. Keeping my fingers crossed that Jim doesn't want to cede control or deal with Phil.

I don't doubt for a minute they would do this, as they feel DH means more to their future than MDA.

Funny thing though — Dwight cares about his image. The talk about him wanting a coaching change has been out there for a while. Is there any way the media doesn't jump on this with both feet, just to reinforce his reputation as a coach killer?

I live in DFW, so ABD all the way. I wouldn't be able to take it.

This, I aint even mad if we don't sign Dwight. Now that we have Harden, only a matter of time before we get another superstar.

Meanwhile our players will continue to develop.

I don't see a way that D'Antoni gets fired and the blame doesn't fall on Dwight.

After our presentation/pitch to Dwight, he will realize that this is his best destination. McHale will surely be a huge asset in convincing Howard because he will surely feature Dwight in his offense. Heck, he even tried posting up Omer Asik at times. ;)

This is why I don't buy it for a second.

None of this is a secret. Dwight never liked playing for D'Antoni. He b****ed throughout the year. If the Lakers were serious about firing MDA, they'd have done it already, or at least expressed some openness to a review. The ideal setup would be Shaw as coach with Phil pulling the strings upstairs, but Shaw interviewed throughout the league and took another job.

If the Lakers pull the rug under MDA after months of backing him (after the season), it makes a mockery of the entire organization and ruins Dwight's image even more. That makes zero sense and hasn't been even hinted at by any insider of substance. It reeks of fanboy dreaming from desperate Laker fans, not reality.

Agreed. You have to give it a chance if it presents itself. All missing out on Dwight would mean is continuing on the OKC course instead of the Miami course.

I'm just dreading seeing Rockets fans get crushed (again) when the reports start to surface of D'antoni "stepping down" as Lakers head coach.

Yes, I believe that is what happens.
