So effectively Morey turns PPat into this year's 19th pick in less than 6 months. Good job!

don't see how even the most ardent haters could ignore the fact that this was likely the best possible outcome short of Robinson or Pat becoming starting-caliber players ...which neither is right now. Hats off to Morey if this gets done.

If the Rockets have 3 teams bidding on Robinson, no doubt they should be able to move Royce White in the deal by going with the offer from the team that will take him on as well in a deal where the Rockets send the remainder of their 2013 cash allowance to cover enough salary for the team taking him on to immediately waive him.

Hell, the Rockets might even give up their cash allowance AND a 2nd rounder to get Royce off the books.

If worse comes to worst and they can't attach him to the deal, I think the stretch provision would seem like the most logical scenario to be able to offer Dwight the full max. They can exercise this at any time up to the day before signing Dwight if they need to.

Morey can say to Cleveland: "No, give us the #13 pick that you are going to get from Dallas, not the #19 or I am going to trade T-Rob to Chicago for the #20."

That way the Rockets can select who they want.

lol i'm pretty sure cleveland would call our bluff. Why would they do that when #19 is already better than #20

Yeah, I actually agree with both of you. Very little chance either of these players will be on the board at 19, but, to paraphrase Wooderson "it'd be a lot cooler if they were".

Still, gotta love the trade just for the cap clearing, future asset hording, Dwight acquiring potential. Also, as I mentioned earlier, if you can strong arm a team not planning on using their cap space anyway (like Cleveland) to let us pay them 2 million to take on White and cut him, then this deal goes from solid to Moreylicious.

To that point, i have my doubts about Schroeder lasting that long as well, and that's the guy i like.

    FWIW

No, other way around. You have to threaten the team who picks after, not before.

If the Cavs don't want to trade the #19 for TRob, how does telling them you will trade him for a worse pick if they don't influence them whatsoever.

This only works if the Cavs and Bulls are mortal enemies and rivals, where the Cavs have something at stake to prevent the Bulls from getting TRob. Still, that has little influence.

Dont discount the possibility of combining whatever pick we get for TRob with a couple of our other bigs (DMo, TJones, GSmith, Ohlbrecht) and moving up to 8-10 in this draft.

Who knows. The Spurs could entice a deal by adding (future) 2nd rounders and/or the draft rights to David Bertans and/or Adam Hanga.

Bertans, some people may remember from 2011 draft. Skinny kid with great size for a SF. Sniper from 3. Doesn't do much else. Played in the Euroleague. Still only 20.

Hanga was drafted in 2011 also. Remember catching a couple of game him playing for Hungary against Great Britian and Macedonia in the 2011 Eurobasket qualifier. Was the best Hungarian player by far. Put up some impressive numbers there. Played for a team called ASS in the Spanish League last year, that fittingly finished last. Personally haven't watched him since 2011, though. Has some tools, but 24 already.
(Probably not a NBA player, but I thought he possibly was worth a flyer when he wasn't on anyone's radar (mock) in 2011. And, boom, the Spurs draft him #59. :p)

The Houston Rockets have been openly shopping forward Thomas Robinson in an effort to clear more cap space for a run at Dwight Howard and have been confident that they will shed Robinson's contract by Thursday night.

Houston is looking to move Robinson to a team that can absorb his salary (either because it is under the cap or possesses the requisite trade exception) and get back a first-round pick in return. And two teams appear to have emerged as serious suitors: Cleveland and Chicago. Sources close to the situation say both teams would be willing to give up a first-round pick in this draft to land Robinson, who went No. 5 overall in the 2012 draft.

The Cavs, though, have also been linked to a potential trade with Dallas for Shawn Marion and the 13th pick that could cost them the second of their two first-round picks, No. 19 overall. They've also made an unsuccessful run at Minnesota's Kevin Love and continue to send signals that they want to make a "big" trade this week. But if Cleveland doesn't need No. 19 for one of those transactions, look for them to try to acquire Robinson from the Rockets.

Sources say that the Bulls, meanwhile, also covet Robinson and are offering the 20th pick. Chicago doesn't have cap space to absorb Robinson's contract but does possess a trade exception that Robinson could slide into.

Who would the Rockets take if they meet their objective to shed Robinson for a late first-rounder? It's virtually guaranteed to be an international player that they can stash overseas and thus keep unwanted additional salary off of their books. Russia's Sergey Karasev, Greece's Giannis Antetokounmpo, Brazil's Lucas Nogueira, Germany's Dennis Schroeder and France's Rudy Gobert are all known targets for the Rockets.
